Currently matriculated Ithaca College undergraduate and graduate students not on academic warning may register for one or more independent studies or an internship. Nonmatriculated (extramural) students are not eligible for these courses during the summer sessions.
During the summer sessions, many academic departments offer independent and other special studies that may not be available in regular classrooms or laboratories. Independent studies are normally for 1 to 4 credits and may take the form of directed study, advanced reading, independent reading, independent research, a research project, a computer project, or a tutorial. Students should contact their academic dean's office or department chair for more information. More than one independent study may be taken during the summer.
Courses listed in the Ithaca College undergraduate catalog may not be taken as independent studies during the summer.
An internship is a field-based experience designed to link theory with practice. In addition to an on-site work component, internships have an intellectual aspect determined by each academic unit. Other offerings may be arranged. Students should contact their academic dean's office or department chair for more information.
