The community service program enables students to become involved in a large variety of volunteer activities in the community on a credit or noncredit basis. Agencies assume no prior training and frequently provide their own orientation programs. Faculty sponsorship is required if credit is desired; credit is variable according to the number of hours of work involved. The specific work to be done for credit is determined on an individual basis in the form of a learning contract among the student, the faculty sponsor, and the agency supervisor.
