Italian Courses

334-10100 Elementary Italian I   HU LA 3a, g

Beginning course. Practice in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing simple idiomatic Italian, with special attention to Italian culture. Emphasizes participation and self-expression. Open to students with no previous Italian or by placement examination. 3 credits. (F,Y)

334-10200 Elementary Italian II   HU LA 3a, g

Continuation of 334-10100. Limited to students who have successfully completed 334-10100 with a grade of C- or better or by placement examination. Prerequisites: 334-10100 or equivalent. 3 credits. (F-S,Y)

334-20100 Intermediate Italian I   HU LA 3a, g

Develops intermediate-level proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Italian. Special emphasis is given to Italian culture. Prerequisites: 334-10200 with a grade of C- or better. 3 credits. (F-S,Y)

334-20200 Intermediate Italian II   HU LA 3a, g

Continuation of 334-20100. Develops intermediate-level proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing Italian. Special emphasis is given to Italian culture. Prerequisites: 334-20100 with a grade of C- or better. 3 credits. (S,Y)

Individual research, study, and/or writing on particular topics, supervised by a member of the department. Offered on demand only. Prerequisites: Permission of instructor and chairperson. 1-3 credits. (IRR)

Extensive oral practice using selected topics as a basis for conversation, discussion, and presentation of short talks. Prerequisites: 334-20200 with a grade of C- or better, or equivalent. 3 credits. (F, IRR)

Develops spoken and written communication skills at the third-year level. Reading and discussion of contemporary material. Writing practice. Laboratory exercises. Prerequisites: 334-20200 with a grade of C- or better. 3 credits. (F,Y)
