* Vocal majors must complete 2 semesters of modern language. Vocalists must choose French, German, or Italian. Spanish will not fulfill the language requirement for a vocal major. Students who place into a second semester language course or above (e.g., Italian -10200), can fulfill the modern language requirement by taking two different languages. Students who do not place into a second semester language course or above, or who have no prior language training , must take two semesters of a single modern language

# Students who place into level 102 or higher of modern language meet the minimum requirements for modern language proficiency. These students can fulfill the three-credit modern language requirement by taking an upper-level course of modern language or by substituting 3 credits of liberal arts elective in place of this requirement.
