 
Endowed Scholarships and Special Awards
A number of scholarship funds have been established at the College through the generosity of alumni, parents, friends, corporations, and foundations. Most of these scholarships and special awards were established by bequests or endowment gifts, though some are maintained through annual support from the donor.
The growing number of these funds provides an increasing source of support for deserving students. Scholarships are usually awarded annually by the appropriate scholarship committee in accordance with the intent of the donor. Unless otherwise noted, they are based on demonstrated financial need as determined by institutional policy. Information and applications for the various scholarships are available in the Office of Financial Aid or in the deans' offices of some schools.

School of Business
Howard Alper Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a junior or senior finance major with demonstrated financial need and an established record of academic achievement. Established in honor of Howard Alper by family and friends.
Philip J. Anderson '89 Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need in the School of Business. Preference is given to students from Tompkins and surrounding counties.
Douglas Betts Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to outstanding students in the School of Business.
Borg-Warner Scholarship
Awarded annually to an outstanding woman or minority student in the School of Business aspiring to a career in corporate management.
Lewis H. Durland Scholarship
Awarded to students with need who attend the School of Business and reside in the greater Ithaca area. Established by Frank and Barbara Collyer in memory of Lewis H. Durland, member of the board of trustees from 1977 to 1983.
Forster Educational Foundation Scholarship
Awarded to outstanding students in the field of accounting. Established by a gift from the Forster Foundation.
R. G. "Red" Fowler Scholarship
Awarded to a student majoring in business. Established in 1984 to honor R. G. "Red" Fowler, former manager of NCR and founder of the Friends of Ithaca College.
Robert H. and Audrey E. Gordon Memorial Scholarship
Supports students committed to academic achievement, professional preparation, and community service. Awarded annually to rising seniors with demonstrated financial need who have established records of academic achievement and active participation in volunteer service on or off campus. Preference is given to students planning to pursue graduate study in preparation for careers in labor relations, labor law, or education. Established as a memorial tribute to Audrey and Tickey Gordon.
Joseph M. Hartnett Scholarship Fund
Assists students in the School of Business who demonstrate financial need and are residents of Tompkins County. Established through gifts from the Tompkins County Trust Company and the friends of Joseph M. Hartnett.
Seymour Knox Foundation Business Scholarship
Established by a grant from the Seymour Knox Foundation to benefit students from the Buffalo, New York, area who are enrolled in the School of Business.
Aniello Massa Accounting Scholarship
A scholarship awarded, regardless of financial need, to full-time accounting majors at the sophomore or junior level who have exhibited outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated a commitment to the accounting program. Candidates are evaluated and selected by the accounting department.
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP Scholarship
Awarded to accounting majors in their third year going into their fourth year, or in their fourth year and admitted to the MBA program at Ithaca College, who demonstrate outstanding academic performance of a 3.3 GPA or higher, who plan to pursue careers in public accounting, and who are U.S. citizens or are permanent residents of the United States. Selection will be based on an application process available through the accounting department and may include an interview with a representative from PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. Selection will be made by the Dean of the School of Business upon recommendations from the accounting faculty. Established through contributions from the accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ithaca College alumni employed there.
Robert Rackow Scholarship
Awarded to students in the School of Business. Established in memory of Robert Rackow.
Elmer D. Robinson Scholarship
Awarded to an M.B.A. student with demonstrated financial need and a GPA of at least 3.0. Preference is given to a student from Tompkins or surrounding counties. Established in memory of honorary trustee Elmer Robinson by his family and friends.
David W. Sass '57 Academic Excellence Scholarship
Presented annually to a rising senior in the School of Business with demonstrated need and the best record of academic achievement as determined by the dean. Established by alumnus and trustee David W. Sass to recognize and support superior academic achievement in business.
Sarah Skelton Sherman '91 and Michael Sherman '91 Scholarship
Awarded to a junior or senior finance major.
David P. Storch '75 Scholarship
Awarded to worthy students in the School of Business, this scholarship was established by David P. Storch '75.
John Sweeney '87 Memorial Scholarship
These awards are for students in the School of Business who demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and actively help to improve campus life. Established in memory of John Sweeney, a 1987 graduate of the School of Business.
John T. Tucker '61 Scholarship
Awarded to a junior or senior with a grade point average of 2.75 or higher and with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students residing in the following counties of New York State: Jefferson, Saint Lawrence, Lewis, and Franklin Counties. Established by Jon T. Tucker '61.
Roy H. Park School of Communications
Additional information about scholarships in communications, including eligibility requirements, can be obtained in January of each year from the dean's office in 331 Park Hall. The application deadline is mid-March.
Anthony Ceracche Scholarship
Awarded annually to outstanding students in the Roy H. Park School of Communications.
Helen and Howard Cogan Advertising Scholarship
Awarded annually to an outstanding student in the Roy H. Park School of Communications who demonstrates unusual talent in the field of advertising and/or public relations.
Philip R. Dougherty Minority Journalism Scholarship
Preference is given to a minority student with evidence of academic and/or creative merit in journalism and participation in journalism-related cocurricular activities. Established to honor the late Philip R. Dougherty, respected columnist for the New York Times.
Generations Fund Scholarship
Awarded annually to organizational communication, learning, and design majors demonstrating high potential for both academic and professional success. Two awards are made annually. One is given in honor of Professor Sandra Herndon and the other in honor of Professor Diane Gayeski.
Michael Hanna Television-Radio Scholarship
Awarded annually to students in the television-radio department who demonstrate outstanding promise and performance in the area of communications management. Established in memory of Michael Hanna, founder of the Ithaca College radio department and its first instructor.
Ithacan Scholarship
Awarded to students with financial need who have been staff members of the Ithacan for at least one semester; who have shown evidence of outstanding achievements and contributions to the College, the Park School, and the Ithacan; and who have shown evidence of academic and/or creative merit in any area of print journalism.
Kristan Landen Film Scholarship
For cinema students who evidence excellence, ability, and promise in film production. Endowed by Marvin and Shirlee Romanek.
Mark Mazura '81 Video Production Scholarship
Awarded to students in the Park School with academic and/or artistic excellence and merit in video production and/or video direction and who have proven long-term interest in and commitment to video production. Established in memory of Mark V. Mazura '81.
Jay L. Linden '72 Sales and Marketing Scholarship
Established in honor of Jay Linden '72 by family, friends, and colleagues. Awarded annually to a junior or senior from the Roy H. Park School of Communications with a GPA of 3.5 or higher, and with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to students who plan to pursue careers in sales and marketing. The candidate will be evaluated and selected by the Office of the Dean of the Park School.
Ann E. Mendelson Endowed Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student in the Park School who demonstrates outstanding achievements and contributions to Ithaca College through extracurricular activities. Preference is given to a rising junior or senior who resides in the Upstate New York area. Established by Barry Mendelson '65 in memory of his sister, Ann.
Dana Kristen Miller '88 Scholarship
Awards are made annually to outstanding women students on the basis of their academic and/or creative merit and active contributions to the field of broadcast journalism. Established by family and friends in memory of Dana Kristen Miller '88, a television-radio major in the Park School.
Alan T. Najar '72 Communications Scholarship
Awarded annually to outstanding students in the Park School. Made possible by gifts from the family of Alan Najar '72.
Park Scholar of Achievement Awards
These awards, made possible by the generosity of the Park Foundation, are intended to recognize and reward outstanding students in the Roy H. Park School of Communications who, regardless of financial need, demonstrate significant academic and creative achievement in communications, involvement in relevant cocurricular activities, and community service in and beyond campus. Awarded annually to incoming freshmen only, scholars receive this award throughout their Ithaca College career by maintaining a predetermined standard of performance.
James B. Pendleton Cinema and Photography Scholarships
Awarded annually to majors in the cinema and photography department who have achieved excellence in film production, film studies, screenwriting, and still photography. Made possible by a bequest from the estate of the late James B. Pendleton.
James B. Pendleton Filmmaking Awards
Multiple awards are given annually to cinema production majors to support completion of student film projects produced in Film Workshop. Established in 1977 by James B. Pendleton.
Charles L. and Janice C. Rumrill Writing Scholarship
Awarded to outstanding students who show great promise as writers in the field of journalism or communications. Established by gifts from the late Janice and Charles Rumrill. Charles Rumrill was a member of the board of trustees from 1965 to 1980.
Jessica Savitch '68 Communications Scholarship
Awarded annually to Park School students who demonstrate excellence, achievement, and promise in the field of broadcast journalism. Established by family, friends, and colleagues of the late Jessica Savitch '68.
Ivan "Jimmy" Schneider Scholarship
Awarded to a rising Park School sophomore with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.00. The student must be enrolled in the College's work-study program and demonstrate good citizenship both on and off campus, with a preference for students from rural areas of New York State. Established by longtime Ithaca College employee Jimmy Schneider.
Rod Serling Communications Scholarship
Awarded annually to students in the Park School who demonstrate outstanding creative scriptwriting ability. Made possible by gifts from the family and friends of the late Rod Serling, who was a visiting professor in the television-radio department for many years.
Mark R. Wilder '81 Communications Scholarship
Established in memory of Mark R. Wilder '81, a graduate of the Roy H. Park School of Communications, to support outstanding communications students.
School of Health Sciences and Human Performance
Students in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance do not apply for the following scholarships. Students eligible for financial aid are given consideration based primarily on academic performance. Preference is given to seniors.
Dr. Justin Alexander Scholarship
Awarded to a deserving physical therapy major to help defray the costs of the last year of study in Rochester. This scholarship was created to honor Justin Alexander on his retirement in 1986 after 28 years of service to the College. Financial need is not a requirement for this scholarship.
Arkell Hall Foundation Scholarship
Awarded annually to students showing outstanding academic ability in the Departments of Health Policy Studies, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology or programs in community health education and therapeutic recreation.
J. William '33 and Jane S. Bagley Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to outstanding students in clinical science/physical therapy.
Emmett Boldt '60 Scholarship
Awarded to a student in the clinical science/physical therapy program. Established by friends and family in memory of Emmett Boldt '60.
Philip James Butterfield Scholarship
Awarded annually to juniors or seniors in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance who exhibit outstanding performance and citizenship. Preference is given to students who plan to pursue teaching careers. Established in honor of longtime professor and head football coach Jim Butterfield.
Duncan Hines Nutrition Scholarship
Awarded to students with minors or concentrations in nutrition who are in good academic standing. Established by gifts from the Duncan Hines Foundation.
Charles A. Frueauff Foundation Scholarship
For outstanding students in the Departments of Health Policy Studies, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, or programs in community health education and therapeutic recreation.
Professor Karl K. and Marjorie Klein Endowed Scholarship
For undergraduate upper-class students in the Departments of Exercise and Sport Sciences, Health Promotion and Human Movement, or Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services who show outstanding academic performance and expertise in the basic sciences.
Dean William B. Koch Endowed Scholarship
Awarded annually to a rising senior in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences. The recipient is selected on the basis of academic merit, a GPA of at least 3.50, and evidence of professional activity in areas related to exercise and sport sciences. Preference is given to an emerging scholar. Established in memory of Dean William B. Koch.
Richard and Helen Lyon Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to students in the Departments of Exercise and Sport Sciences, Health Promotion and Human Movement, Sport Studies, or Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services who plan careers in teaching. Established by gifts of alumni and the family and friends of Coach Dick Lyon and his wife, Helen.
William A. and Fern N. Lyons Scholarship
In recognition of the superior academic ability of a student in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
Nancy L. Olsen '65 Scholarship
Awarded to women who are New York State residents and are currently majoring in physical education. Established by Nancy L. Olsen '65 to honor her parents.
Phi Delta Pi Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to a deserving female student in the School of HS&HP. The scholarship recipient must demonstrate academic excellence, exhibit leadership on campus and in community activities, and show financial need.
Physical Therapy Endowment
Awarded to outstanding seniors and fifth-year students in the clinical science/physical therapy program.
Plus One Scholarship
Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior in the Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences or the Department of Health Promotion and Human Movement. Eligible students must have at least a 2.80 cumulative GPA, be recommended to the dean by their chair, and provide a résumé and letter describing their career goals and commitment to the health and well-being of others. Sponsored by Plus One Holdings, Inc.
Merton J. Roberts '35 Scholarship
Awarded to students with demonstrated need in the Departments of Exercise and Sport Sciences, Health Promotion and Human Movement, Sport Studies, or Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services. Established in memory of Merton J. Roberts '35 by family and friends.
Chester S. Southwick Scholarship
Awarded to a student in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance, with a preference for physical education students who plan to pursue careers in teaching. Established in memory of Chester Southwick by his son.
Charles F. Saxton '51 Scholarship
Awarded to a junior in the School of HS&HP who shows outstanding academic performance.
Tioga County Home Bureau Scholarship
Awarded to a deserving student majoring in therapeutic recreation or occupational therapy, who demonstrates financial need. Preference is given to the therapeutic recreation major.
Brian Truhn Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student in the Departments of Exercise and Sport Sciences, Health Promotion and Human Movement, Sport Studies, or Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services who plans to pursue a career in coaching.

Hardwin Abbot-Davies '91 Scholarship
Awarded to a rising senior in speech communication. The recipient must be in good academic standing, show financial need, and be recommended by a faculty member of the speech communication department.
Peter Bergstrom Scholarship
Awarded annually to an acting or musical theater major whose talent and academic ability demonstrate potential for achievement in the performing arts. Established by the friends of Peter Bergstrom '81 in his memory.
Cissy Cheskis Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student in the Department of Theatre Arts, with a preference for acting majors. Recipients must demonstrate progressive academic achievement. Established in memory of Cissy Cheskis by her son, Robert Cheskis '88.
Katherine B. "Toby" Clarey '31 Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to needy and talented acting or musical theater majors, with preference given to minority students. Created by family and friends to honor Katherine B. "Toby" Clarey '31, a theater arts graduate well-known for her activities in Ithaca regional theater.
Richard M. Clark Memorial Scholarship
These awards are made to outstanding theater arts majors. Established in memory of Richard M. Clark, chair of the Ithaca College Department of Theatre Arts from 1981 to 1987, by friends, colleagues, alumni, and family.
Professor G. Ferris Cronkhite Scholarship
Established through a generous bequest from Professor G. Ferris Cronkhite, this scholarship is awarded annually to students with financial need who demonstrate success in English, art history, French literature, German literature, or Spanish literature. In 1966 Professor Cronkhite joined the Ithaca College English department faculty. He retired in 1982 and was named professor emeritus in 1985.
Drago Chemistry Award
Based on academic achievement, laboratory skills, and promise in the field of chemistry, awards are made to rising seniors recommended by the faculty of the Department of Chemistry. Financial need is not required.
Fred L. Emerson Foundation Humanities Collaboration Award (EHCA)
Humanities majors with financial need as determined by the College are eligible to apply for funding to support academic collaborations with humanities faculty members. The application process is managed by the EHCA committee through the office of the dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences. Preference is given to rising juniors and seniors. The collaboration usually occurs during the summer, but may occur during the academic year. In circumstances approved by the EHCA committee, limited funding may be provided to support travel expenses.
English Majors Scholarship
Established by gifts from faculty members and alumni, this scholarship is awarded to English majors with outstanding academic records and proven financial need.
Friars Foundation Scholarship
Awarded to outstanding undergraduates in the Department of Theatre Arts through an annual grant from the Friars Foundation.
Carolyn Gilbert '64 Speech Communication Honor Scholarship
Awarded annually to a junior or senior speech communication major with a GPA of at least 3.50. Established by the late Carolyn Gilbert '64, a former member of the speech communication faculty.
George A. Gonzalez-Gallardo '79 Scholarship
Awarded annually to students recommended by the faculty of the Department of Biology. Established in memory of George A. Gonzalez-Gallardo '79.
Mary Helen Hart '35 Scholarship
Established in memory of Donald and Martha Negus, the scholarship provides financial assistance to students at Ithaca College who major in art. Created by Mary Helen Hart '35 in memory of her father and mother.
Laura Hinckley Hauer '23 Scholarship in Theater Arts
Awarded annually to a theater major whose talent and academic ability demonstrate potential for achievement in the performing arts, and who has financial need. Established through a generous bequest from Laura Hauer '23, who majored in drama and public speaking and taught these subjects for many years.
George Hoerner '47 Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to talented and dedicated technical theater and scenic design students. Established by family and friends of the late George Hoerner '47, professor emeritus of theater.
Thomas Morrin Jones Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a senior with need who majors in biology, chemistry, mathematics, or some combination of the sciences and who, through his or her academic work and community activities, best exemplifies commitment to the liberal arts and the tradition of social service as personified in Thomas Morrin Jones.
Elliot Mayrock '73 History Scholarship
Awarded annually to an incoming freshman or transfer student who has declared an intention to major in history or social studies. Established by Elliot Mayrock '73.
Sheila Mitchell Award
Awarded to a graduate of Ithaca High School currently enrolled in the School of Humanities and Sciences, with preference given to minority students. Established by friends and colleagues in memory of Sheila Mitchell, an employee of Ithaca College for 20 years.
Frances Nobel Newell '32 Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a student with financial need who is majoring in theater arts or English with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference is given to students from Pennsylvania. Established in memory of Frances Nobel Newell '32 by her daughter, Debbie Duffield.
Robert A. Ryan Endowed History Scholarship
Established by Professor Emeritus Robert A. Ryan through his estate. Awarded annually to students with a declared major in history.
David W. Sass '57 History Scholarship
Established to recognize outstanding achievement in the study of history. Based on proven need and the recommendation of Department of History faculty members, awards are made each year to academically accomplished history majors, with preference given to students entering the junior or senior year. Made possible through a gift from David W. Sass '57, a graduate of the history department and a member of the Ithaca College Board of Trustees.
Gertrude Spencer English Award
Awarded annually to an English major whose talent, academic ability, and achievement demonstrate an outstanding command of the English language.
Susan Spitz '67 Memorial Scholarship
Awarded for academic excellence in the study of English. Established in memory of Susan Spitz '67.
Robert Barden Terwilliger '80 Scholarship
Awarded annually to a graduating senior in philosophy or psychology who plans to pursue an advanced degree. Established in memory of Robert Terwilliger '80 by family and friends.
Theater Arts Alumni Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a junior or senior majoring in theater arts. Established by alumni and friends to honor the unique educational experience provided in the Department of Theatre Arts, while establishing a permanent memorial to deceased alumni, faculty, and others.
Lillian Speakman Vail '21 Scholarship
Awarded annually to juniors and seniors with established records of academic achievement and community service. Preference given to students in music, theater arts, and speech communication. Established by the family and friends of the late Lillian Speakman Vail '21 to honor her lifelong friendship, service, and support of Ithaca College.
Jane Woods Werly '27 Endowed Scholarship Fund
Established by Jane Woods Werly '27 for students majoring in theater arts or music and concentrating in musical theater.

Ronald E. Batson '36 Scholarship
Awarded annually to students in the School of Music who have chosen to major in voice. Established through a generous bequest from Ronald E. Batson '36, who studied voice and earned his degree in music education from Ithaca College and spent his career as a public school music teacher.
Celia Slocum Blair Scholarship
Awarded to students entering their senior year. The recipients are recommended by the dean of the School of Music and the faculty of the Department of Music Education. Recipients must be pursuing a major in vocal or instrumental music education. Preference is given to members of the Lambda Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon who plan to teach music in public schools. Established in memory of Celia Slocum Blair, coordinator of music education at Ithaca College.
Robert S. Boothroyd Sr. '24 Scholarship
Awarded to deserving students making outstanding contributions to the School of Music. Established by Robert Boothroyd '24.
Winifred Ruland Bouck '35 Scholarship
Awarded to a rising female senior in the school who is recognized by the faculty for her special musical ability, and plans to teach music in the public school system of New York State. Preference is given to students who come from Schoharie County, New York. Established in memory of Winifred Ruland Bouck '35 by her family.
Les Brown '29 Scholarship
Established by the late Les Brown '29 to assist an outstanding junior instrumentalist in the School of Music.
Patrick Conway Endowed Scholarship
Awarded annually to a deserving student in the School of Music. Established in memory of bandleader Patrick Conway, who founded the Conway Band School at Ithaca College.
George King Driscoll '32 Scholarship
Awarded to music students, with preference given to those studying piano. Established by a bequest from Professor George King Driscoll '32, who was a member of the piano faculty from 1936 until his retirement in 1977.
Margery A. DuBois '46 Scholarship
Awarded to a student with financial need enrolled in the School of Music. Established in memory of Margery A. DuBois '46 by her family.
W. Grant Egbert Music Scholarship
Awarded to a student demonstrating excellence in music, scholarship, and service. Established to honor W. Grant Egbert, the founder of Ithaca College.
Edwin R. Erickson '25 Music Scholarship
Awarded annually to a deserving student in the School of Music. Established by Edwin Erickson '25.
Elenita M. Benjamin Fitch '28 Scholarship
For a student in the School of Music who is also a member of Mu Phi Epsilon, Lambda Chapter. Established by a bequest from Elenita M. Benjamin Fitch '28.
Charlotte C. '31 and James M. Fitzgerald Scholarship
Awarded annually to an outstanding student in the School of Music. Established in memory of Charlotte Fitzgerald '31 and her husband, James.
Clinton B. Ford Scholarship
Established by the late Clinton B. Ford, a trustee of the College, to provide scholarship assistance for talented stringed instrumentalists in the School of Music.
Friars Foundation Scholarship
Awarded to outstanding undergraduates in the Department of Theatre Arts and/or the School of Music, by a grant from the Friars Foundation.
Gustave Haenschen Scholarship for Music Students
Awarded to a talented and deserving music student. Established by family and friends of the late Gustave Haenschen.
Gretchen Haller '24 Music Scholarship
Awarded to a deserving music student who demonstrates financial need. Preference is given to a student with an interest in vocal performance.
Charles R. Hockett Music Scholarship
Awarded annually to an outstanding student in the School of Music who is a composition major. Established in memory of Chas Hockett by his family and friends.
Kathleen Kimple Houghton '24 Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to outstanding violin students who are juniors or seniors, who have demonstrated excellence in performance, and who have a GPA of at least 3.00.
Col. George S. Howard '25 Music Scholarship
Awarded annually to qualified students of wind instruments. Established through a generous bequest from George S. Howard '25, a graduate of the Ithaca Music Conservatory who was commander in chief and conductor of the Air Force Band and Symphony Orchestra.
Eleanor P. Johnson Music Scholarship
Awarded annually to deserving music students. Established by a bequest from Eleanor P. Johnson, a friend of the College.
Leo A. and Frances MacArthur Keilocker Scholarship
Awarded annually to outstanding instrumentalists who study violin, viola, or cello. Made possible by an endowment established by a bequest from Leo A. and Frances Anne MacArthur Keilocker, both 1925 graduates of the School of Music.
Philip J. Lang '33 Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to an outstanding music school student, with preference to students studying composition. Established in memory of Philip J. Lang '33, who contributed to America's musical heritage as a musician, teacher, composer, and orchestrator.
The Laub Family Scholarship
Awarded annually, upon recommendation of the dean, to an upper-class student in the School of Music who demonstrates outstanding performance ability and solid academic achievement. Made possible by gifts from the family and friends of Lydia and David Laub. David J. Laub was a member of the College's board of trustees from 1965 to 1982 and served as its chairman for six years.
Kathryn A. C. Martin '19 Music Scholarship

David Barnes Perry Memorial Scholarship
Established by Dorothy P. Livermore '24 in memory of her son. Awarded annually to an outstanding music student.
Roberta Peters Scholarship
For an outstanding vocal student in the School of Music. Made possible by gifts from Roberta Peters, an honorary trustee of the College.
Brigid A. Porter '93 Scholarship
Established by the family and friends of Brigid A. Porter '93 in her memory. Awarded annually to music education or performance/music education majors who have completed their freshman year with a GPA of 3.00 or higher. Preference is given to students who are orientation leaders or resident assistants.
Presser Foundation Scholarship
This award is granted annually to the most outstanding junior music student, based on scholarship and talent. This person is named "Presser Scholar" in his or her senior year.
Ruth Blackman Rodgers '11 Scholarship
Awarded to talented students in their third or fourth year in the School of Music. Established through a bequest of Ruth Blackman Rodgers '11.
Louis Smadbeck Composition Award
This award was established by Ithaca College parent Louis Smadbeck to honor talented composition students in the School of Music. The award recognizes the best new musical work written each year by a student. The entries are judged by a faculty committee and the prize is awarded at a special concert each spring.
Josephine Watson Southwick Music Scholarship
Awarded to a junior majoring in music education. This scholarship was established in memory of Josephine Watson Southwick by her son.
Ruth Butts Tapke '17 Scholarship
Established in memory of Ruth Butts Tapke '17. Awarded to musically talented students from rural New York, so that Ithaca College might expand their horizons as it did for her.
Iola Angood Taylor '32 Scholarship
Established by a bequest from Iola Angood Taylor '32 to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students from public-school music programs. Preference is given to students residing in the Hornell-Canisteo area.
Allan H. Treman Music Scholarship
Awarded annually to students who have made an outstanding contribution to the School of Music. Established by a bequest from the late Allan H. Treman.
Lillian Speakman Vail '21 Scholarship
Established by the family and friends of Lillian Speakman Vail '21 in honor and memory of her lifelong friendship, service, and support to Ithaca College. Awarded annually to juniors and seniors with established records of academic achievement and community service. Preference given to students in music, theater arts, and speech communication.
James J. Whalen Young Artist Award
Established by the Fred L. Emerson Foundation to honor James J. Whalen, Ithaca College's sixth president, for his 22 years of distinguished leadership of the College and for his steadfast dedication to its students. Awarded annually to the entering freshman music major with the highest combined academic and musical rating. The James J. Whalen Young Artist Award covers up to the cost of full tuition and is renewed automatically for a total of 9 semesters (summer sessions excluded) as long as the recipient maintains a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and remains enrolled full time and in good standing as a music major at Ithaca College.

African-Latino Society Alumni Memorial Scholarship
Recognizes high-achieving students of color who have made significant contributions to multicultural awareness and the well-being of minority students on campus. Awards are made through a process of selection committee review.
Bert Bryan Baker Scholarship
Established by the family and friends of Bert Bryan Baker, a great believer in education and a superb motivator of students. Awarded annually to promising students who demonstrate high standards of citizenship. Preference is given to students from Tompkins and Monroe counties or adjacent areas.
Geoffrey and Patricia '69 Banfield Scholarship
Established by a generous gift from Geoffrey and Patricia '69 Banfield. Awarded annually to a deserving student with financial need.
Michael Bond Scholarship
Established by gifts from the family and friends of the late Michael Bond '76 to recognize outstanding students.
John P. E. Brown '35 Scholarship
Established in memory of John P. E. Brown '35, a member of the board of trustees for 52 years. Awarded to students who have outstanding academic records and are active as volunteers.
Mark and Shelly Buckstein Scholarship
For worthy students from the New York City public school system, with preference given to graduates of the Bronx High School of Science.
Campus Center Scholarship
For students employed at the Campus Center who are willing to help themselves by working and who show good academic performance.
Class of '84, Class of '85, and Class of '93 Endowed Scholarships
Established by members of the 1984, 1985, and 1993 senior classes as their gifts to the College. Awarded to a junior or senior with financial need, solid academic achievement, and an active involvement in campus organizations, upon recommendation by the director of campus activities and orientation and the director of financial aid.
Class of 1991 Memorial Scholarship
Established by members of the 1991 senior class as their gift to the College and later expanded to include gifts memorializing former classmates. Awarded to a junior or senior with financial need, solid academic achievement, and an active involvement in campus organizations.
Robert Reed Colbert Sr. Scholarship
Established through the generosity of longtime trustee and friend of the College, Robert Reed Colbert Sr. Mr. Colbert was a highly accomplished businessman, especially in areas of banking and real estate, who served his community with dedication and distinction throughout his life. The Colbert Scholarship awards are made annually to academically promising sophomores, juniors, and seniors from the greater Ithaca, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse areas who show demonstrated financial need.
Janet B. Donald '57 Scholarship
This award is given annually to a high-achieving graduate of Ithaca High School who has financial need. Preference is given to a student who is physically challenged.
Fred L. Emerson Endowed Scholarship and Internship Fund
Awarded to students based on their significant contributions to the extracurricular life of the College and meritorious academic performance. Both scholarship and internship funds are available.
Georgia Hume Evans Memorial Scholarship
Established by gifts from the Georgia Hume Evans Trust. Awarded to students with need who are in good academic standing.

Friends of Ithaca College Founders' Scholarship
Established on the occasion of the Friends' 35th anniversary to honor Roland "Red" Fowler and other founding members. Awarded to outstanding students from Tompkins and surrounding counties.
Jay C. '65 and Ardelle L. Gardner Scholarship
Awarded to a junior or senior who has shown the commitment and character to stay in school and who would otherwise be unable to complete his or her education.
Joseph Gluck '49 Scholarship
Awarded to a meritorious student in memory of Joseph Gluck '49.
Jed Haubenstock Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student entering the senior year who demonstrates leadership and involvement in campus activities, as well as a high degree of commitment to furthering the quality of life on the Ithaca College campus. The award is made by the Presidential Scholarship Committee upon recommendation of the campus adviser for student activities and governance.
William Randolph Hearst Foundation Scholarship
Awarded annually to outstanding transfer students with high academic achievement and financial need. Students must transfer from a community college that has an established articulation agreement with Ithaca College.
Richard Hirshfield Scholarship
Awarded for academic achievement, with preference given to residents of Connecticut.
Gloria Hobbs Scholarship
For deserving minority students not in the Ithaca Opportunity Program.
Anne M. Humphrey Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Anne M. Humphrey, director of business services at Ithaca College from 1984 to 1988. Through gifts from family, friends, and colleagues, this award is made to a student who has (1) worked in the Ithaca College dining services, purchasing, warehouse, general services, special events, bookstore, or the business services offices; (2) held a position in one of these offices for at least one year and intends to continue that work during the academic year in which the scholarship is to be awarded; and (3) assumed demonstrable additional responsibilities during employment in one of the previously mentioned offices.
Lillia Babbitt Hyde Foundation Scholarship
Awarded to students who show good academic performance. Endowed by the Lillia Babbitt Hyde Foundation.
Ithaca Legacy Scholarship
This special fund was established to provide previous scholarship recipients and other interested persons a means of supporting today's students through Annual Fund contributions. Awards are given to students with demonstrated need who have distinguished themselves by their academic performance.
Leonard B. Job Scholarship
Awarded to outstanding students in their junior and senior year who have demonstrated academic excellence.
Ben Light '36 Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to one student nominated by his or her department for outstanding contribution to the community. Established by gifts from the family and friends of the late Ben Light, a devoted administrator who helped build the South Hill campus.
London Assistance Grant
The Ithaca College London Center Program is available to all academically qualified sophomores, juniors and seniors. This grant is awarded to rising juniors and seniors with demonstrated financial need who wish to participate in the London Program.
Adrian O. Pearsall Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to deserving graduates of Trumansburg High School attending Ithaca College. The recipients receive the award for four consecutive years providing they remain in good academic standing and continue to demonstrate financial need.
Perennials Scholarship
Established with the help of the late Lillian Speakman Vail '21 to honor those classes who graduated from the College 50 or more years ago. Awarded to students with need and good academic performance.
Truman K. Powers Scholarship
Established in memory of Truman K. Powers, an Ithaca attorney, by his family and friends. Awarded to an outstanding junior who is interested in a law career and has a GPA of at least 3.20.
Margaret Reid Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to juniors or seniors demonstrating leadership qualities and a wide range of active participation in campus organizations.
Robke-Zuris Scholarship
Awarded to juniors or seniors in recognition of academic achievement and extracurricular involvement.
Senior Scholarship
Awarded to a senior in recognition of academic achievement and campus involvement.
Anne Siegel '81 Memorial Scholarship
Established through gifts to the College from the family and friends of the late Anne Siegel '81. Awarded annually to a rising junior or senior who most closely personifies the qualities and attributes of Anne Siegel. Good academic performance and involvement in the extracurricular life of the College are prerequisites.
Diane Frankle Storck '70 Scholarship
Established by Diane Frankle Storck '70 to assist students in their junior or senior year who are facing an unexpected financial situation that jeopardizes their continued enrollment at Ithaca College. Students should have demonstrated solid academic achievement and if possible a record of service and/or leadership to the Ithaca College community.
Student Government Scholarship
Awarded to exemplary juniors or seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and involvement in campus life. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.60 and participate in a broad range of experiences on campus.
J J Staff Scholar Award
Established through contributions from staff, faculty, and friends of James J. Whalen, Ithaca College's sixth president, in honor of his 22 years of service to the College. It is awarded annually to a full-time member of the staff who is matriculated in the employee degree program. Candidates must have completed at least 90 credits toward graduation and maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher. The deciding criterion for awarding the scholarship is length of service.
Surdna Foundation Scholarship
Awarded to deserving students who show good academic achievement.
Kirk '96 and Whitney '96 Swenson Minority Scholarship
Awarded annually to a first-year African American, Latino, or Native American student with demonstrated financial need. Established by Kirk and Whitney Swenson to encourage qualified minority candidates to matriculate at Ithaca College. In the event such a candidate cannot be found, the fund may be used to assist a student who might not otherwise be able to attend Ithaca College.
George C. Textor Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to students who show meritorious academic performance. Established by friends in memory of the late George C. Textor, chairman of the College's board of trustees from 1966 to 1968.
J. J. Whalen Turtle Bridge Scholarships
Established by a gift from James J. and Gillian H. Whalen. Awarded annually to outstanding seniors who have shown steady improvement in academic performance during their undergraduate careers at Ithaca and who are actively involved in the campus and/or local communities.
