This course links the challenges that first-year college students experience with similar demands in business settings. Students learn that the issues they face individually in transition from high school to college have parallels to those faced by business organizations. Topics include: diversity, time management, goal setting, learning styles, money management, communication skills, and resource utilization, among others. 888-10100 World of Business NLA
An overview of the world of business in terms of the decisions involved in and the socioeconomic, political, and legal factors that influence business decisions. Particular note is taken of the areas of finance, accounting, human resources, production, marketing, and their interdependencies. The "world" part of the course title connotes the scope of the functions involved in business decisions as well as the way such functions are carried out in different countries. This course also provides regular experiential learning opportunities. Open to first-year business students only. Prerequisites: 888-10000 First Year Seminar in Business. 3 credits. (S,Y)
