The Stroke Center at Cayuga Medical Center: Stroke Treatment and the Role of the Stroke Team

Barbara Goodwin, MSN, RN

Barbara Goodwin is a nurse and the manager of education at Cayuga Medical Center. Her background includes 20 years as an army nurse in Texas, Washington D.C., Louisiana and Germany. Most of her experience is in Intensive Care and caring for patients who have had strokes.

In this workshop, stroke is discussed in general, including incidence, risk factors and ways to decrease risk. The most common types of stroke are reviewed, signs and symptoms of stroke are discussed, and recommendations are given for what to do if these signs are observed. Consequences of strokes and the treatment options are examined.
