"Choosing and Using Qualitative Software" a seminar and consultations with Ray Maietta of ResearchTalk, took place on Wednesday April 15. Resources can be downloaded on the right, and for a limited time the audio portion of the seminar is available to Ithaca College faculty on iTunesU via login. His presentation and two articles are linked on the right.
“Preparing a Winning Book Proposal: A Workshop” with Sheri Englund, takes place on Tuesday, June 9, 10:30-noon in the DeMotte Room* of the Campus Center. Enrollment limited to 20. Please register online here.
If you will be spending this summer revising your dissertation or preparing another book manuscript, it is not too soon to think about approaching publishers. Is your manuscript ready? How can you create and narrow a list of suitable presses? And what will you need to do to introduce acquisitions editors to your manuscript—and seize their interest?
This workshop will help you take the first steps toward getting your book published. We will discuss manuscript and writing sample preparation, acquisitions editors and what they look for, the content and presentation of book proposals, submission strategies, and the peer review process. There will be plenty of time for questions, and you will leave the session with a carefully crafted, marketable description of your project and a clear understanding of how to craft a complete, effective book proposal.
Dr. Sheri Englund owns and operates Englund Literary Services, a freelance editorial business specializing in nonfiction in the social sciences and humanities. A former Ivy League acquisitions editor, Englund is a seasoned publishing professional who has worked directly with writers for fifteen years. She is the only editor in the nation currently offering formal advice on scholarly book proposals.
*The DeMotte Room is located down the South stairs from the Campus Center Lobby, the stairs left of the Information Desk. It can also be reached by an outside door on the lower south side of the Campus Center.
