The Intercom story announcing the planning project is here.
The Provost charged Susanne Morgan to undertake a two-year process of evaluating our current faculty development activities, and of proposing a future model that will best enable faculty in the years ahead.
The first stage in that process was a needs assessment which was completed in fall 2008. The full report can be downloaded on the right, as can the basic summary of the survey of faculty, a two-page summary of patterns I saw in the frequency data, and the findings of the focus groups.
An Advisory Group reviewed the needs assessment and exploring functions, organizational arrangements, and possible mission statements of a faculty development model for Ithaca College. The Advisory Group solicited comments on the draft proposal.
Due to budgetary constraints, the planning process was reduced from two years to one and the proposal was expected to involve no new resources. It recommends a model called Ithaca Faculty Commons. Based on the current half-time coordinator, the model builds a network of Affiliates through which all faculty development resources can be centrally accessed. Through a partnership with ITS, the model also builds a robust electronic environment to supplement the face to face activities.
The final report was submitted on April 29, 2009, and can be downloaded on the right. Comments on that report are very welcome; anyone should contact Susanne Morgan for conversation or other exchange. In particular, anyone with ideas or interests regarding implementation of the model should let Susanne know.
