Outcomes
Ithaca College’s Environmental and Sustainability Model bundles together a comprehensive program that will make the College the most high-profile example of a college in the United States committed to change and to the thorough preparation of student leaders who are likewise committed to change and equipped with the skills and knowledge to take action.
The measurable outcomes for our success of our Educational Excellence Program will be:
- the number of applicants for incoming positions to the Environmental Studies Program;
- the caliber and quality profile of these applicants;
- the number and quality of student projects funded through the program;
- the progress Ithaca College achieves towards climate neutrality with the support of research efforts; and
- the long-term accomplishments of our graduates.
The measurable outcomes for the success of our Synergy and Outreach Program will be:
- the number of applicants (and participants) for the Finger Lakes Project;
- the follow-up reports from participants on their successful development and successful implementation of sustainability themed curricula;
- the number of students enrolling in the certification program;
- the diversity of organizational sectors represented by those enrollees; and
- the follow-up reports from participants in the certificate program on their successful development and implementation of sustainability thinking and practice in their respective organization.
As with our past grants, we expect that Ithaca College will internalize the costs of these successful programs in the annual operating budget following the grant’s expiration. The Certificate Program and the Finger Lakes Project will be able to support themselves once they are firmly established and well known. Ithaca College has volunteered to provide the administrative support for the grant, estimated at $55,000 over three years.
Ithaca College’s Environmental and Sustainability Model beautifully supports the stated goal of Ithaca College’s mission, which reads in part: “All members of the College community are encouraged to achieve excellence in their chosen fields and to share the responsibilities of citizenship and service in the global community.”
It also fortifies the mission of the environmental studies program which is to be “dedicated to educating students to become active inquirers and socially engaged leaders empowered to create a sustainable future.”
The environmental studies program’s vision is to instill the values of community, engagement, open mindedness, responsibility, and integrity and ethics in our faculty, students and wider community. At Ithaca College, we recognize our role and responsibility to share our insights, wisdom, and expertise – and to fully prepare new leaders — to foster sustainable change as broadly and as rapidly as possible.
