February 9-10, 2008
Retreat with your friends and fellow student leaders to a weekend filled with exciting activities, insightful workshops and memorable moments. A campus tradition, Leadership Weekend is a two-day retreat for Ithaca College freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Held annually, it brings together students from a variety of roles on campus to learn from each other and discover new ways to demonstrate leadership.
During the weekend, participants attend a series of leadership development sessions that focus on teambuilding and further developing individual leadership skills and understandings. The program combines both large and small group sessions that offer a variety of topics for discussion and learning. Throughout the program, participants are encouraged to discuss their own thoughts on leadership and to meet and network with other student leaders as well as develop new friendships. A memorable college experience, many past participants consider Leadership Weekend to be a meaningful way to connect with other student leaders and to further their involvement at Ithaca College . Many have expressed how much they have learned and gained through their participation in Leadership Weekend.
What are the logistics of this event?
Leadership Weekend is held off campus at a hotel in Owego , New York . Lodging, meals, transportation and retreat materials are all provided as a part of the applicant fee. Leadership Weekend begins on campus at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and concludes on Sunday in the early afternoon. All participants must travel with the group and must attend the program in its entirety. This year, Leadership Weekend is offered on two separate weekends. It's the same program on each weekend. By offering it twice, participants are able to select which weekend fits their schedule; therefore, they only attend one weekend.
How do I apply and What Does It Cost?
Applicants must complete and submit an application beginning October 19, 2007 in order to be considered for Leadership Weekend.
There is a $50 Participant Fee. Applications are submitted online by clicking on "how to apply."
Can I find a sponsor to pay my participation fee?
Most participants find sponsors to fund at least part of their participation fee if not all. Student organizations, campus employers and academic departments are all permitted to sponsor students for Leadership Weekend. Consider talking with your supervisor, department chair or student organization about sponsoring you to attend. If you need additional information about Leadership Weekend to share with a potential sponsor, contact Kelly Stevens in the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement. How do I know if I've been selected to attend?
After the final deadline, the Leadership Weekend Project Team will review all of the applications in order to select the participants. Those individuals not selected will be placed on an "Alternate List" in case anyone is not able to attend. Following the selection process, all applicants will be notified by postal mail of their application status.
If I have a disability, can I attend?
In accordance with Ithaca College 's commitment to an inclusive environment, we can accommodate most student needs. Those individuals with disabilities who require accommodation should indicate on the application the accommodation needed. This information will not be used in the applicant review process; it will only used in order to make appropriate arrangements in advance of the event, including transportation for those utilizing a wheelchair or needing a sign interpreter.
