Student Leadership Consultant

Student Leadership Consultants will work in conjunction with the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement and the Office of New Student Programs and the Office of Multicultural Affairs to assist with the development, coordination, and implementation of all programs and services offered. Student Leadership Consultants will serve as ambassadors to the campus community and should represent the vision and values of the Center for Student Leadership & Involvement, the Office of New Student Programs and the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

Through continuous education and training, Student Leadership Consultants will have the opportunity to expand their skills in the areas of training, advising, and consulting. They will obtain valuable knowledge and a significant level of experience that will be of great use long after they leave Ithaca College .

Duties

  1. Assist in the planning and facilitating of workshops, retreats, conferences, service projects, and on-going programs or projects.
  2. Serve as a consultant to student organizations wishing to plan events.
  3. Plan and facilitate leadership and group development workshops for students.
  4. Offer one-on-one guidance for students who are seeking to enhance their leadership skills or experiences.
  5. Assist in the day-to-day activities of the offices and the Student Activities Center, including but not limited to answering phones, filing, collecting mail, opening and closing the offices, faxing, copying, distributing forms and contracts to student organizations, and greeting walk-in appointments.
  6. Serve as a peer advisor to individuals and student groups and connect them with agencies and organizations for community service opportunities.
  7. Participate in training and development workshops.
  8. Attend regularly scheduled student staff meetings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment and to follow through with ideas from conception to completion.

  3. Be conscious of attendance and timelines.
  4. Have the ability to serve as a role model and conduct oneself in a professional manner.
  5. Demonstrate a capacity for project management.
  6. Be familiar with the services, structures, and systems of Ithaca College .
  7. Utilize organized decision and problem solving skills.
  8. Take initiative and work independently.
  9. Possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
  10. Set a positive tone for interaction and demonstrate responsibility and respect for others' rights, feelings, lifestyles, diverse backgrounds, and for personal and College property.
  11. Knowledge of desktop publishing tools will be very helpful (ex. Adobe Photoshop, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Flash, MS Publisher, Indesign, video, and Microsoft Office Suite).

Qualifications

  1. Be a registered Ithaca College student in good academic and judicial standing (2.5 cumulative grade point average or above).
  2. Not have a dual role in a significant elected/appointed leadership position in a registered student organization and/or office.
  3. Preference will be given to students who will be sophomores, juniors, and seniors in the 2006-07 academic year.
