i like the way the class is going. we should get together in groups more often, it's great getting
to know more people in the class. since we can't work with kids, maybe we
could volunteer some place else for a few classes, like a nursing home or loaves & fishes. it
would give us a greater appreciation for life and helping others. i think it would bring people
in the class together if we all participate in some volunteering.

Used the auditory program today, SO cool. We learned a really handy trick
about converting Celcius to Farenheit and about complimentary numbers.
Very good first-day-back class.

Today was the first day back from break, and I even through I’m starting
to feel like I don’t
want to do anymore work, I liked our class today. I feel like Dani has
come up with a new
and interesting was of teaching, which for someone like me – with my
learning abilities
this new method may prove to be very instrumental.  I thought that the
complementary
numbers lesson was a good practice, and a helpful way to add. I enjoyed
today’s class

Listened to another audio lesson today and learned about how to find the
circumference of a semi-circle. Also started the wire letter project and
came up with a formula for finding the circumference and cutting/bending
point for the letter 'D'. Good class

Listened to another audio lesson today: Math Trivia. Very cool. Also
started work on letter project.

Response by Allison W.

 Today we listened to
Dani's new auditory lesson where it gave us different Math Trivia. I'm
really starting to like these auditory lessons more. I know it helps me
to learn better when I'm reading and someone is reading aloud with me.
After the lesson, we got into groups and discussed ideas for our project
due next Friday. Our group came up with some really good ideas and I
think it's going to turn out nicely.

Response by sarah v

 i think the auditory
lessons are a good idea-- it's helpful to try to appeal to the different
senses
and see what works. I would like to continue using this method and get a
feel for numbers.

Looked at Jacqui's art book, listened to another auditory lesson, and
continued work on letter projects. Good class

Response by Allison W.

Today Jacqui presented a book that she created for her Book Design class.
I really liked it because I'm an art major and her teacher is my advisor.
I would really like to take the Book Design class as well. They do a lot
of interesting things that allow your creativity to flow. After looking
at Jacqui's book, we listened to one of Dani's auditory lessons. This
lesson was called "Taste of Equations", where we substituted "x" for
numbers and then found the answer. I was proud of how fast I got the
answers and didn't really have to think about it.Outside of class, I am
working on my group project and am finding some interesting things. I'm
excited to present it on Monday.

Response by MG

I think the course is moving
along nicely this session.  I like Dani's auditory learning method, and
I'm enjoying the work that my group is doing for our presentation.

Response by 110984

 I really enjoyed the
auditory lessons.  I think the combination of listening and reading helps
students learn the material even better.  This kind of teaching style is
something that I have never been exposed to before and I think it is
truly fabulous.  I would really like to see more of it.  I also think
class is going well and I am excited to take on the tiling project.  I am
really interested in art and this is a good way for me to choose a piece
of art work that interests me and make a cool tiling of it.  Class, for
me, is really fun and I think I am finally seeing the connections between
math and just the world around me.

Response by nunzy

i just read the other side
stoty, and i really liked it, but at the same time it make me ask
questions, and wonder more... but i think that one of the beautiful
messages from the story was "Each and every one of us, no matter where we
are, screwed up or not, is a blessing to the planet, right where we are."
Because that is true. Dani's class really reasures that notion.

Response by Shane Taylor

 I enjoy all of the
auditory lessons. I find it's a good way for me to learn. Listening to
introduction to the command FD and RT I was able to get a grasp of how
create shapes. Through using see-logo and doing the FD and RT commands
myself I was able to get the complete feeling of how it all works. thank
you dani for staying up late and getting this ready for class.

Talked about our nationalities, learned about memes, and listened to the
audio lesson using SeeLogo. Tried out the lesson for ourselves, making a
star shape. Fun class

Response by Melissa

 Today's lesson involved
seelogo. I understood the lesson but it really didn't interest me. I
really don't like using computers. I can see how using a computer might
be helpful for instruction but I wish that there were other ways of
testing our knowlege other than through the computer.

Response by Allison W.

 today we opened by
talking about our heritage, thinking about the idea of how diverse we all
are in our backgrounds, but we are really all the same when you think
about it. Then Dani showed us a website about Meme's, which can also be
described as a virus of the mind. They are sometimes very hard to get
over. Dani used the example of people who suffer from Anorexia, a very
serious illness. These people deal with Meme's because they are convinced
in their minds that they are too fat and need to keep losing weight.
After that, we did an auditory lesson, which I liked a lot because we
played with the SeeLogo program and we could create different shapes and
art forms just using numbers. We won't have class this Friday, but Monday
we will finally present our projects, which I am looking forward to.

Today in class we talked about ethnicities, and heritage. It was
interesting learning and talking about that, because I am proud of my
heritage, and its cool to hear where other people are from. Also today we
used Seelogo, which I think everyone enjoys because it promotes learning
and working with other people or by oneself. You also get to experience
everything while you’re doing it. I like that.

No class, listened to the auditory cooking lesson.
March 28
Presented group letter projects and talked about the cardboard temples.
Used SeeLogo to make shapes and place them symmetrically. Good class

 March 28
Today our projects were due. I thought everyone's project was well made,
creative, and fun. I enjoyed seeing what everyone had come up with. I
thought our group's presentation went well. Our project was to find
alphabets in different languages and find some fun/interesting facts
about them. Mine was the Arabic alphabet. I found it pretty interesting
because I learned their alphabet was adopted from the Greco-Roman period,
as well as their mathematical language, and later it was passed on to
many European countries, who still use it today. This is just one of the
many examples of how we are all connected in some way. It's amazing what
power languages carry, and how we can understand each other through
languages, not just in speaking a language, but also in mathematical
languages, or musical, or art, etc. I find these are all things that
connect us together, and whether we realize it or not,it's there.

 Dani -
Doing the labyrinth the other day was an incredible idea. All of us
working together so well...I couldn't believe that you actually took your
shoes and socks off and walked through it. That was AMAZING. What a
creative class idea. I hope to be spending more time outside during
class. I am truly enjoying myself - thanks Dani for making such a great
class.

  I really liked the
special music class we had on Friday. It was a great, great way to begin
the day! The chamber group is so talented. There was really much positive
energy.
And in response to your question about how would we get attendance if
there were 1,000 students, I would say... group off in groups of ten, and
write your name down. Then there would be hundred pieces of paper... Hmm,
maybe that wouldn't be the easiest way afterall.

Response by sarah v

i wish we all had time to
walk the labyrinth.... i also thought that making a labyrinth was a great
idea. maybe we could make more, and we could study how different cultures
use them. it would be nice to work with mandala designs, too. it's really
amazing that our class is free to move outside. it truly shows that our
learning is not confined. every class is something new. i think our minds
crave this kind of sponataneity!

I really liked class today. Today we played a game w/moving disks between
3 pegs. i was fun to figure it out, and also i got to work with a partner
today that i have never worked with before. she was very nice, and we sat
on the floor. I hope we keep playing math games like that. I also liked
when Dani read that poem.

Response by Jason Olshan

 April 4th,
I was really interested in the discussion today about paradoxes. How can
we really say we are
getting anywhere when there is an infinite amount of space between point
A and point B. It makes
no sense, but it is nonetheless very intriguing.

Response by Shane Taylor

 I have really been
enjoying the past few classes. Last class we worked with pegs and I
thought it's was a good way to work the mind. The poetry dani read I
enjoyed listening to. The class before we built a labyrinth. The nice
weather outside along with building a mathematical structure with the
class made it a fun and productive day in math fun.

Dani I'm sorry i wasn't at our last class on friday, my boyfriend is very
sick so i needed to take care of him. This class has been so great and i
really loved the mandrin project last wednesday. It was really fun to
make the madarins and see the slide show.
