The Girl and the Paper Planes
A true story of love and connection
Hi Dani, It's Sunday afternoon and after reading your message I get the
feeling that your feelings could be not so certain about the connections
being made in our class. Let me tell you about an experience I had
Friday afternoon at Giac that's been dance in my mind since it happened.
I've been going down to Giac Thursday and Friday for two weeks now and
I've been going down there with the intention of playing either football
or basketball with some of the young guys and making a connection through
games. I can honestly say that I meet a lot of the kids this way and it
made me feel more comfortable this way when kids would say hello to me.
I feel good about myself when I can share energy which is positive with
anyone in this case kids. Well up until Friday I knew what I wanted to
do and accomplished it as far as making connections with kids though use
of sports. Friday came and I was feeling pretty down I did pretty bad I
a test that I put a lot of time into and one of my teachers seems like he
is going out of his way to be mean to me. I went to Giac trying to get
away from these negative emotions I was feeling. I walked in and a game
of SIMON says was in progress, I played about 2 games and then helped
judge one. After that I went outside and felt pretty all by my self. I
didn't know any of the kids nor were there any games going on. And then
this little girl asked me if I knew how to make paper airplanes. I
looked at her with a huge smile and said you asked the right person I can
teach you to make great airplanes. The two of us went in to the
playground and sat down and we made about five different airplanes and
then tested them out. We decided that of the five one was the best so I
made another airplane for my self. We began flying them off the entire
play ground off the bridge and just running every where and playing.
Soon about four of her friends came over and wanted to play so I helped
make more airplanes and then more kids came over and airplanes were
flying everywhere. I was running around and enjoying my self so much I
didn't even care that I swallowed about dozen bugs and it didn't bother
me at all. After a while they told me that I sound like Elvis and we
both thought that was funny. After a lot of the kids left me and this
little girl were on top of a tall tire slide and she jumped off. She
told me to follow but I was scared. She helped get pass my fear and soon
I was jumping. Time passed and her father came but she look very sad to
go and then she asked when I 'll be back. I told her Thursday and said
goodby. One thing I think about now is the airplanes were a lot like
life it didn't matter where the airplane landed whether it was far or in
the mud or the sand or where ever just as long as you enjoyed the
flight. I'll see you in class and I 'm going to bring a surprise to
class. Enjoy
