Courses and programs in the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies are designed to expose you to a wide range of ideas and experiences. In the spirit of helping you gain a wider perspective on the world, we encourage you to take advantage of Ithaca’s wealth of academic opportunities and to cross disciplinary boundaries.
The professional world demands flexible thinkers who can adapt to a rapidly changing economy. DIIS helps you develop the originality, creativity, and critical thought necessary for a variety of professions -- from librarian, technical writer, and foreign studies adviser to program and policy analyst, aging services provider, and attorney.
You’ll be able to choose from majors and minors both within the division and in the schools, and to tap into the expertise of faculty across campus. Your professors will help you make connections between fields of study; consider more than one disciplinary approach, methodology, or point of view; and draw on insights from many fields for solutions to the complex problems facing our world, such as hunger, illiteracy, and war.
To help develop your cultural awareness, we strongly encourage international study through any of Ithaca’s numerous study-abroad programs. The ability to accommodate new people, ideas, experiences, and cultures is not only personally fulfilling, but essential to your success in a global economy.
