DIIS is committed to exploring models for coordinating support between Digital Instruction and Information Services and other units in order to blend technology skills with expertise in area disciplines. DIIS developed a liaison program with academic areas in which a lead person from each area would be identified in order to enhance communication and coordination for mutually important technology issues.
The purpose of the academic liaison program is to significantly improve the quality of the services DIIS provides to academic departments and faculty members.
The goals of the program are:
- To systematize and improve communication between DIIS and academic departments
- To provide liaisons with a "first look" at new technologies, and, when appropriate, have liaisons serve as "beta testers", or evaluators of new technology
To facilitate this communication:
- There is a special e mail listserv for academic liaisons and DIIS staff to disseminate information, ask questions and share ideas.
- An informational meeting is held at the start of each semester to inform the liaisons about upcoming projects, new technologies and changes that may affect their areas.
The role of a liaison does not require any special technical expertise, or having to actually perform any technical work for office systems.
