Information for Faculty

CLICKERS: IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR '16-'17 academic year.

In Fall 2016 IC transitioned  from Turning Point 5 to Turning Point Cloud software. Changes include:

  1. Turning Point Cloud Software: The software has some minor interface changes and will still run off a USB/ReceiverFor security reasons, faculty must log in to use the software.
  2. Student responses will be recorded in aggregate but in order to track individual students, students must obtain a Turning Technologies account and license in addition to having a NXT clicker.
  3. Students can purchase a new NXT clicker bundled with a 4-year license at the IC bookstore. Students with used clickers must purchase a 1 or 4 year license. There will be a 100% mail in rebate for the '16-'17 school year.
  4. Instructors can opt to use Responseware™, which allows students to use mobile devices to respond.  This requires obtaining a license.
  5. Students can register their Responseware™ and/or clicker via Sakai.  

How do I get the new Turning Point Cloud software and USB/Receiver?

The software runs from the USB drive as it did with TurningPoint 5. Order an Instructor Kit from Turning Technologies.  DIIS has a limited number of new Turning Point Cloud USB receivers available for faculty currently planning on using clickers. Please contact DIIS Service Desk at  It is also possible to download the Turning Point Cloud software to your USB/Receiver. [video].

Why isn't the Turning Point Cloud software on the podium computers in the classrooms?

DIIS recommends that the "no install" TP Cloud software be run from a USB/Receiver drive with the software in order for you to easily save your preferences and student response session files directly to the drive.

Will my old Powerpoint Question Slides from Turning Point 5 work in Turning Point Cloud?

Yes. Make sure you copy your old content to your new drive or Content Folder in TurningPoint Cloud.  Most of  the software functions are the same.

How do I get a Turning Account, which is now required to use Turning Point Cloud Software?

Unilike TurningPoint 5, you must be registered with a free Turning Account to use TurningPoint Cloud software.  Tip: Please set up an "offline password" if you are not connected to the internet. See links in the sidebar.

Request Turning Technologies Tool to your Sakai Course Site

If you would like to have students register their devices in Sakai and/or export session data to the Sakai Gradebook please request through or the DIIS Servicedesk at  Use the Turning Point Cloud software to import the participant list from Sakai.  

How do I order Clickers or Responseware licenses?

Contact the IC Bookstore to order clickers for your classes as you would your textbook orders.  The clickers used will be NXT clickers bundled with a 4 year Turning license.   There is a "$20.99 mail-in Rebate" for the students.  ISBN:9781934931776.
Note: students can purchase Responseware licenses directly from the Turning Technologies student store after creating a Turning Technologies account.

Do students need a Turning Account and license if they already have a clicker?

In order to track individual responses, students must have a license.  They can purchase licenses directly through Turning Technologies.  For the '16-'17 school year Turning Technologies is offering a mail -in rebate for the full cost of the licenses.  

Can I use Turning Point Cloud with both Turning Technologies NXT clickers and Responseware?

Yes,  You can collect students responses with any combination of NXT clickers or mobile devices with Responseware.

How do I update the Turning Point Cloud Software?

Launch your software and on the main dashboard click on the TurningPoint logo on the bottom-center of the window.

Known issues:

  1. Wi-Fi Interferes with RF signal in certain rooms, notably Williams 225 and CNS 115.  To remedy go to Preferences > Connections and set to either Channel 25 or 50.  Tell students to click "Channel" on their clicker and enter the matching channel number.

What is the student response system?

The Turning Technologies student response system allows instructors to ask questions and collect responses by students with clicker devices or with a mobile device via Responseware™.  The instructor uses a receiver and software to collect responses, track students, or poll anonymously.
Users can:

  • Poll in Powerpoint (Powerpoint Polling)
  • Poll in any application (Anywhere Polling)
  • Self-paced Polling for quizzes and exams.

This system can import rosters directly from  Sakai with the new Turning Technologies-Sakai integration and can  export scores to the Sakai Gradebook or Post 'em tools. With Results Manager, instructors can track performance and attendance.
