There are a few things I wish I had known before I left because I would have packed differently. Panty hose are a real hindrance and so are pants. If I were preparing to go back I would make an effort to find a garter belt and old style nylons and I would have taken skirts that don't need ironing (like the rayon ones that you leave twisted to dry). Here's the reason...
Visualize the potty seat used for little boys with the deflector cup at the front. Now stretch it so that its final dimensions are something like 18" wide and about 30" long. Now place that object into the floor so that there is only about 2" of it above floor level. This is a squat toilet. They are made by American Standard just like most toilets in the USA. This bit of porcelain is what you will find in public facilities like at the Great Wall and other tourist attractions. Don't be frightened, they are not at all hard to deal with even if you feel a bit ungraceful at your age or weight...unless you are wearing panty hose or pants. The easiest way to handle this is in a skirt with no encumbrances for your knees to deal with.
P.S. Talk about adventure! Wait til you try it on a train! ;-)
