Accessing images for the course

1. I will be making the Offline Image Viewer files I use in class available to you through the course's Sakai site (in the "Resources" section). In order to view these files on your own computer, you will need to download and install ARTstor's "Offline Image Viewer" software. If you have already registered for ARTstor, skip to #3 (below).

2. If you do not yet have an account with ARTstor, you need to register as follows:

  • If you are off campus, connect to the ARTstor site via the library's ezproxy serve: go to the college library's art site, click on ARTstor in their list of databases, and enter your netpass username and password when prompted. Then click "Enter Here" (upper right). If you are on campus, you can go directly to the ARTstor site and click "Enter Here" (upper right).
  • Then click on "Register" (upper right).
  • Provide your email address, and create a password for your ARTstor account. This gives you access to the full range of features of ARTstor, as well as access to the course folder I've created on ARTstor.

3. Once you've registered and/or logged in, you will also be able to

  • download and install the OIV software: under the "Tools" menu click "Download Offline Presentation Tool (OIV)," and then follow the instructions. Once this software is installed, you will be able to view the OIV files I make available via Sakai.
  • view the folders of images I've created for the course in ARTstor by "unlocking" the folder for this course. Go to the "Find" menu, choose "unlock password-protected folder," and then enter the password I will supply in class.
  • create and save your own image groups. It's easy to do searches for images; simply enter a search term (name of an artist, keyword, etc.) in the search box. You can narrow the results of your search by hitting the "+" button after the words "narrow your results." Creating your own image group is a great way to collect images that you might use for projects in this course.
