1. If you already have an ARTstor account:
- Go to the "ARTstor" site.
- Once you are at ARTstor's home page, click "Go" by "Enter the ARTstor Digital Library" (upper right).
- If you are logging into ARTstor from off-campus, you will be required to enter your email address and password for your ARTstor account in order to access the site. If you are accessing ARTstor from on-campus, once the site loads you will need to log in to ARTstor via the box at the upper right.
- To see the folder for this course, you will first need to unlock it, since it is password protected. In the ARTstor navigation menu, click "Find > Unlock password-protected folder."
- Enter your name and the password I'll give you in class; click submit.
- Now click "Find > Browse image groups" to open the folder for this course (ARTH 231 Northern Renaissance).
- When you unlock the course folder, ARTstor will also automatically create a "student work folder" for you, with your initials iin parenthesis after the course title. You will be using this folder in connection with the semester-long project.
2. If you do not yet have an account with ARTstor, you need to register as follows:
- If you are on campus, go to the ARTstor site and click "Go" (upper right).
- If you are off campus, connect to the ARTstor site via the library's ezproxy server by going to the college library's site, finding and clicking on ARTstor in their list of databases, and entering your email username and password when prompted.
- Then click on "Not Registered?" (upper right).
- Provide your email address, and create a password for your ARTstor account. This gives you access to the
full range of features of ARTstor, as well as access to the course folder I've created on ARTstor.
- Once you've registered and/or logged in,
follow the instructions above for unlocking the ARTH 231 Northern Renaissance course folder.
3. Once you have registered with ARTstor, you can create and
save your own image groups; feel free to experiment with the service's resources.
It's easy to do searches for images; simply enter a search term (name of an
artist, a city, etc.) in the search window, and then select either "all collections"
or a particular collection in
the pull-down menu. You will note that Ithaca College's Art History digital image collection is now being hosted on ARTstor, and is one of the particular collections that can be searched.
4. Also, you have the ability to add your own notes to images in the student work folder. You simply click on the caption beneath the desired image thumbnail to open the data window, click on the "student notes" tab, and click once into the free-text field to enter or edit text.
5. Also, you should download (via the "tools" menu") ARTstor's "Offline Image Viewer." This not only gives you the ability to look at ARTstor images offline (one image at a time, or as paired images), but also allows you to create image presentations, and import PowerPoint presentations or your own images into the presentation. |
