This course is for art history majors and minors who plan to pursue careers in the visual arts or architecture. Students will explore different possible careers, and learn about the different kinds of preparation and practices they require. Students will also learn how to practice critical reading, evaluate sources and other information, and recognize specific approaches taken by others to images, objects, and buildings, in order to develop self-awareness in their own work. In addition, students will practice the writing skills necessary to any career in architecture or the visual arts. We will have guest presentations by practicing art historians, as well as field trips to local art institutions. The skills we will build can be practiced in a variety of professional settings. This course is required for art history majors, and also open to art history minors; it is open to others on a space-available basis. |
