HANDWERKER GALLERY VISIT

Object analysis

Paper Assignment, Part I

Following our visit to the Handwerker Gallery, I would like you to write up a 2-3 page visual analysis of an art object(s) from their collection.  This description of the object(s) will form the basis of your research paper.  You can use questions 1-4 from the object study guide handout (which you will receive Tuesday) as the basis of this description.

In addition, please turn in a list of at least 3 questions, which will guide you in your future research of your object(s).  Note that the gallery has very little information and that most likely we do not have an archeological context to turn to.  This is the art historianŐs challenge: what CAN we investigate?  In addition to methods we have discussed in class, your assigned reading by Rebecca Stone-Miller, Introduction from Seeing with New Eyes, should help you think about a range of questions that might help you approach the object.  I suggest that you read this prior to your visit.

This phase of the paper is due February 24th.
