Trouble Spots

FOR: pour, pendant

• pour (a preposition, must be followed by an object or an infinitive) introduces an aim, a purpose, "in order to" do something.

Il l'a fait pour sa mère.
          [aim]
Nous avons fait un régime pour maigrir.
          [purpose]

•pendant introduces a length of time it took to do something in the past.

J'ai travaillé en Aftique pendant cinq ans.
         [how long]
