Trouble Spots

TO LOOK AT , TO LOOK FOR: regarder, chercher

• Notice that English uses the prepositions at, for to complete the verb, while French uses no prepositions. That's the only trouble spot here.

• regarder = to look at something, somebody; to watch

Il m'a regardé fixement, mais j'ai fait semblant de ne pas le voir.
Personne n'a regardé le match entre les Braves et les Yankees.

• chercher = to look for something, somebody.

Où as-tu cherché le bracelet que tu as perdu?
Cherchez quequ'un d'autre...ça ne m'intéresse pas.
