Ah, if we could only learn French before English! Place is only trouble in English.
The English word place in French is endroit. It is a physical location such as a place to eat, a place to live.
C'est un endroit où tu peux rencontrer des gens.
[It's a place where you can meet people.]
C'est un bon endroit pour se reposer.
[It's a good place to relax.]
The French word place means a seat (a place to sit down),
or enough room (space) to do something.
It also means a public square (park).
Y a-t-il de la place pour moi à cette table?
[Is there room (space) for me at this table?]
Je n'ai pas assez de place pour mes affaires.
[I don't have enough room for my stuff.]
Regarde! J'ai deux places pour la pièce de Racine à la Comédie française!
[Look! I have 2 seats for the play...]
Le Rond Point des Champs Elysées est une place publique.
[The Rond Point is a public square.]
