Trouble Spots

QUICK/QUICKLY: rapide, rapidement, vite

Rapide and vite are not synonyms (they do not mean the same thing).

Rapide means rapid or quick. It is an adjective and can only modify a noun.

Le TGV est un train rapide.

Vite means quickLY. It is an adverb and will mostly modify verbs.

Dites-moi vite!
Elle court très vite. Est-elle en danger?

To make rapide into an adverb, add -ment: Rapidement  is a synonym for vite.

==> BEWARE!:  Vitement  does not exist. It would mean "quicklyLY".
