Trouble Spots
SINCE: depuis, puisque
• depuis denotes the starting point for an action.
It can be an adverb (modifying vbs. or other adv.)
or a preposition (requiring a bject).
--Depuis quand êtes-vous ici? [adv.]
--Depuis lundi. [prep.]
• puisque is a conjunction and will join two sentences (clauses).
It, too,
denotes a starting point in time.
It can also mean "seeing that...", "because" (providing
a reason for some action).
Je vais le faire puisque tu le veux.
Il n'a pas écrit puisqu'il est tellement occupé à l'université.
