Trouble Spots
USED: usé, d'occasion
This problem is part vocabulary, part similarity with English (un faux ami).
The word that looks the most like English means something different from the English version.
usé (adjective): all used up, no more left; worn out
Ne mets plus ce manteau-il est trop usé.
[too worn, gettin thin around the edges]
Mes chaussures sont usées.
[probably have holes in them]
Even people can be all worn out when they feel tired and weak.
Elle a l'air vraiment usée.
d'occasion means previously owned. It's not brand new.
J'achète toujours des voitures d'occasion parce qu'elle coûtent moins cher.
