Trouble Spots


WORK: (le) travail, (il) travaille

Travail and travaille sound alike, look very similar, and they both mean "work."
BUT
, one's a noun and the other is a verb and can only be used with a subject.

How to tell them apart? Facile: The verb has a verb ending (-e); the noun doesn't.

le travail (noun)

Nous avons toujours trop de travail.
Le travail pour ce cours est facile.

• je/il/elle/on travaille (verb + a subject to tell who's "working")

Je travaille si je veux; je ne travaille pas si je ne veux pas. Nah!
