Girl: I'm Amber. Bridget: I'm Bridget. Boy 1: I'm Anthony. Hillary: Im Hillary. Stephanie: Nice to meet you guys. Ok so we are going to talk about your typical day and how media fits into that. Ok so I guess we should start off with that Xbox you have right there, do you guys play that a lot? Boy1: Not much. Bridget: Not much! Do you have a TV to go with it. Boy1: Yeah we have a TV, I put it in my room finally because I wanted it in my room. Bridget: So you don't play video games a lot? Boy1: We do when we get a chance because of work. Bridget: More on the weekdays or weekends? Boy1: Probably on the weekends. Hillary: How many hours do you typically play a week? Boy1: 10, 15 maybe. Stephanie: Do you like to play alone, or with friends. Boy1: Mostly with friends, or roommates. Bridget: Do you play computer games online? Boy1: No. Bridget: What about you, do you play any video or computer games? Girl: No. I'm not into video games. Stephanie: Do you guys have computers in your dorm room? Girl and Boy1: Yeah. Stephanie: Do you have internet? Girl: Yes Stephanie: So do you use instant messenger and stuff? Girl: Yeah, I'm on it a lot. Bridget: With an away message? Girl: Yep. Stephanie: Do you have one up right now? Girl: Well actually I just signed off because I had to put my computer away but usually I always have one up. Stephanie: How often do you check your email? Girl: Everyday, at least once a day. Stephanie: How about like weblogs or online journals, do you have those? Girl: Like mySpace, I have mySpace but I don't write in it, I just put pictures up. Bridget: Look at friends and stuff? Girl: Yeah. Stephanie: Its just kind of a way to stay connected? Girl: Yeah. Stephanie: So do you also have TV in your dorm? Girl: Yeah its really small though in the living room and then I have a big TV in my room. Stephanie: How big is your TV? Girl: I don't know, it's like this big, I have no idea. Stephanie: And you guys just get cable through the school? Girl: Yeah its free. Boy1: And you can sign up for extra channels but it cost money. Girl: Yeah it cost money. Bridget: Do you have channels 1-70 now or something? Boy: We actually have a lot, its funny because here and here, the two new buildings we get about 70 channels. Over in A building they get about 30 maybe if that. Stephanie: So you want to be in one of these two buildings that has more. Girl and Boy1: Yeah, it's the projects over there. Stephanie: What about when your online, what kind of websites do you look at? Boy1: Mostly just check my mail. Girl: Yeah mostly just my mail and mySpace. Boy2: Yeah I check my mySpace too. Bridget: Whats your mySpace name? Boy2: It like a bunch of numbers. Steph: How regularly do you update that? Boy 2: I check it everyday. Hillary: Can people leave you messages and stuff like that? Girl: They can write you something. My phone is ringing I'll be right back. Bridget: Its kind of like the Facebook, you guys don't have that do you. Well mySpace is kind of like that but isn't more about music, it started that way. Boy2: Yeah you can put music and stuff on it, you can put videos too. Steph: What kind of music do you guys listen to? Boy 1: Whatever has a good beat to it, I don't really care. Steph: How do you listen to the music do you have any on your computer? Boy 1: TV and Boy 2: ipod. Boy 1: Yeah ipod. Steph: You both have an ipod? Boy 1: Yeah Steph: How many songs do you have on there? Boy 1: 500 or 600, something like that. Boy 2: I got like 1500. Steph: So you guys download music a lot? Boy 1: Yeah you cant download through the school, you have to burn off CD's. Hillary: So how often do you guys use your ipods? Like during the day, when you study, work out? Guy 2: Yeah working out. Guy 1: I use them mostly for bus rides Steph: How about you, how do you listen to your music? Girl: Through computer, I don't have an ipod. Steph: Do you have a diskman Girl: Yeah basically. Hillary: Do you guys use a radio at all, in your cars or Girl: In the car Boy 2: I wake up, my alarm is the radio. Steph: And how about cell phones Girl: I talk on my cell phone a lot Steph: Yeah, do you text message? Girl: Yeah, not as much anymore, I used to. I just talk a lot on the phone. Steph: How about ringtones and stuff, do you have those? Girl: I have personal ringtones for people. Hillary: So would you say your cell phones your main way of communicating with people or do you use AIM or email more. Girl: IM and my cell phone I probably use the most. Steph: How about you guys, do you have a cell phone. Boy 1: Yeah I have one, I don't use it much. Bridget: You don't like people finding you? Boy 1: Exactly, mostly my mother when she calls. Steph: And you use the house phone too? Boy 1: Yeah but you can only make local calls around here. Steph: How about cameras, do you have a digital camera, a disposable one? Boy 1: I have a disposable Girl: I have a disposable Boy 2: I got a real camera. I'm a photo major so.. Steph: How about you guys, what are your majors? Boy 1: General Ed basically. Girl: Elementary education Steph: And how do you guys stay informed with the outside world, do you look online for news or do you watch the news. Boy 1: We watch the news whenever its on Girl: One in a while. Steph: How about newspapers, do you look at them? Boy 1: No, no definitely not. Girl: No Steph: How about magazines, do you subscribe or buy? Girl: I bought one magazine since I've been here, it's like a People magazine but that's because I was bored and had nothing to do. Boy 1: I hate reading. Bridget: What about movies, do you watch DVD's. Boy 1: Yeah, I usually just borrow from people. Girl: Usually one the weekends, like Sundays. Bridget: Do you go out to the movies ever? Girl: No, I don't have money to do that. Boy 1: Tickets are expensive, everythings expensive. Steph: Do you rent DVD's ever? Girl: I haven't no Boy 1: We just borrow because everyone has DVD's.
