Quiz - Some SPSS Stuff - Fall 2005
This is an individual effort. You need to be able to do the SPSS stuff for the projects and for the final exam. So work on this one on your own.Use the dorm room photo data that is available on this page. The codebook sheet is there also. If you have questions about how to do something in SPSS, remember there are SPSS tutorials and links on our class webpage that might be helpful. Notice - you don't have to include the spss output - just use the output to answer the questions. Email me the answers before 5pm on Monday.
- Using the three variables for messy (messy tv area, messy computer area, messy videogame area) answer these questions
- Which of the 3 variables is most normally distributed? What part of the spss output do you look at?
- What does it mean that the messy computer area variable has negative skewness? (hint - tell me what skewness means first)
- What does it mean that the messy videogame area variable has a kurtosis of 6.9? (hint - tell me what kurtosis means first)
- When you filter out the boys rooms, which of the three variables are normally distributed? What changes about the variable for the messy area around the tv?
- Create a new variable to show how many of the media appliances considered in this file are in each room. What is the average number of media appliances in this data file? What is it's standard deviation?
