It is an awesome feeling to know that you have learned something.
Not just memorized or shoved into your head to be remembered in a couple
days then forgotten, but to actually learn something. It is very
empowering to know that I learned something that I can teach and explain
to others. The best part of all of this is that the things that I
learned where about math. Math, the previously dreaded subject that
haunted dreams and gave me endless headaches. I learned math!
I can problem shoot in a program that I'd never used before, and I can
use math to do that. I feel really good abut leaving this class with
knowledge that I will retain and also use.
I went to Lakeside for the Native American circle of life. I
met several people had the chance to hear some amazing stories of life
while I was there. One woman in particular was Joyce. She had
been a teacher and her husband had been a pilot in the war for the air
force. We talked for a long time about this because I have many friends
in the air force. She had been a schoolteacher for many years.
I am going to school to become teacher so we had a lot to talk about and
a lot in common.
I am looking forward to being a TA for this class next semester and
helping in other people learn the power of math. I have also grown
a lot spiritually. Our class has been through a lot together.
We were together during the Sept. 11th terrorist attack and the more recent
plane crash. I have learned a lot about the people in my class and
their beliefs and feelings. I have not had the opportunity to connect
so closely with the people in my other classes. I have gotten to
know a few of the students outside of class also. For instance, Matt,
Carina, Sandra, and Ryan. I don't have hardly any friends on campus
yet and so these few people are very valuable to me. I feel like
I have bonded with them.
As for math all the things that I learned would take up 20 pages of
paper if not more. Many of the things that I learned I remembered
learning in high school but not understanding. The clarification
of the meanings and reasons behind the math really helped me grasp the
concepts to the fullest. I leave this class with a different look
on math and a different spin on life. I just hope that my next math
class will prove to be as wonderful as this one has been. I look
forward to another semester of expanding my knowledge in new and interesting
ways and helping others do the same. My goal of knowledge s endless
and I will always be yearning to learn, understand and reach for more.
Thanks you
