Amidah for Friday evening

1. Avot - Ancestors

Blessed are you, Lord our God and God of our ancestors, God of Abraham, God of Isaac, and God of Jacob,
the great, mighty, and awesome God,
God most high,
who does loving acts.
The Master of all things,
who remembers the good deeds of our ancestors and
lovingly brings a redeemer to their children's children,
for the sake of his name.

King, helper, redeemer, and protector. Blessed are you, Lord, the shield of Abraham.

*Note: Feminist and egalitarian Jews will also often add in the names of the matriarchs: Sarah, Rebekah, Rachel, and Leah.

2. Gevurot - Divine Power

You are mighty forever, Lord, you who revive the dead, and are mighty to save.
You sustain the living with kindess, and you revive the dead with great mercy.
You support those who have fallen, heal the sick, free the imprisoned,
and keep faith with those who sleep in the dust.

Who is like you, Master of Power, and
Who resembles you, the King who kills and brings to live and makes salvation grow?

You will be faithful to revive the dead. Blessed are you, Lord, who revives the dead.

3. Kedushah - God's holiness

You are holy and your name is holy, and holy ones praise you every day.
For you are are a great and mighty king, O God.

Blessed are you, Lord, the holy God.

*The above is the version of the Kedushah that is recited during the evening prayer. During the morning and afternoon prayer the Amidah is also repeated by the leader of the service, and a longer version of the Kedushah is recited then.

4. Shabbat - blessing of Shabbat

You have made the seventh day holy for yourself, the completion of the creation of heaven and earth.
You blessed it above all other days, and made it holier than all other festivals, and thus it is written in your Torah:

The heaven and the earth were finished, and all their array. On the seventh day God finished the work that He had been doing, and he ceased on the seventh day from all the work that He had done. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because on it God ceased from all the work of creation that He had done (Gen. 2:1-3).

Those who keep the Sabbath and call it a delight shall rejoice in your kingdom.
All the people who make the seventh day holy shall be satisfied and have pleasure in your goodness.
You were pleased with the seventh day and blessed it,
You called it the most desirable of days,
a remembrance of the acts of creation.

Our God and God of our ancestors, be pleased with our rest. Make us holy with your commandments, and give us a portion in your Torah. Satisfy us with your goodness, and make our souls rejoice in your salvation. Purify our hearts to serve you in truth, and lovingly and willingly grant us, Lord our God, your holy Sabbath. All of Israel, those who make your name holy, will rest on it.

Blessed are you, Lord, who makes the Sabbath holy.

5. Avodah - Sacrificial worship

Be pleased, Lord our God, with your people Israel, and favor their prayer. Restore sacrificial worship to the holiest place of your sanctuary. May you soon accept the fire-offerings of Israel and their prayers in love. May the worship of your people Israel always be pleasing to you.

May our eyes behold your merciful return to Zion. Blessed are you, Lord, who makes his presence (Shekhinah) return to Zion.

6. Hoda'ah - Thanksgiving

We thank you, for you are Lord our God and the God of our ancestors forever and ever.
You are the strength of our life and our saving protector.
For every generation we will thank you, and speak your praises,
for our lives that are in your hands,
and for our souls that are in your care,
and for your miracles that are with us every day,
and for your wonders of every moment: evening, and morning, and noon.

The good one, whose mercies never cease,
and the merciful one, whose kind deeds never end,
we always hope in you.

For all these acts, your name is blessed and exalted and raised up, our King, forever and always.

All of the living will thank you, and they will praise and bless your great name, in truth, forever and ever. The good God, you are our salvation and our helper.

Blessed are you, Lord, whose name is good, and to whom it is fitting to give thanks.

7. Shalom - Peace

Grant abundant peace to Israel your people forever, for you are the King and Lord of peace. May it be good in your eyes to bless us and to bless all of your people Israel at all times with your peace. Blessed are you, Lord, who blesses your people Israel with peace.
