The Kaddish is recited at various points in the service by mourners, and the congregation responds to the mourner several times during the Kaddish. Notice that the Kaddish does not refer to death at all - it is a prayer in praise of God and God's name.
The Kaddish began as a prayer recited after study - eventually, various versions were incorporated into the synagogue prayer service, including the "half Kaddish," a shorter version that is used as a break between various parts of the service, and the Mourner's Kaddish.
The left column presents an English transliteration of the Hebrew, and the right column is an English translation.
