The Jewel in the Lotus

In a faraway land
there is a jewel
so brilliant
it dazzles
the eye of the sun.
But the way there
is dark: the jewel
does not light the way.
This jewel is never seen
only spoken of.
How shall we understand those reports?
Who will guide us there?
And what will we find
when we arrive?

We look for the jewel
in the heart of the lotus
that seems to glow
not reflecting the sun
but with its own interior light.
Instead all we see within
are pods of seeds
that drop into the murky depths
to sprout in mud
that never sees the sun.
Inside these seeds there glows
the black light of a dark sun
that cracks their casings
makes life stir
encased within a shell, dead
cradling life.
