The Hungry Heart tells the story of Vermont Pediatrician Fred Holmes who works with patients addicted to prescription drugs. Music for the film includes numerous sources, but three are rooted in Ithaca: The Horse Flies, Richie Stearns, and Boy with a Fish. Jeff Claus and Judy Hyman, of The Horse Flies and Boy with a Fish, and Stearns, solo artist and also of The Horse Flies, will join film director, Bess O'Brien for the screening.
Aside from contributing music for The Hungry Heart, Jeff Claus has a remarkable resume. He is a founding member, writer, vocalist, and guitarist of the alternative rock band, The Horse Flies. He is also a member of Boy with a Fish, a band rooted in Ithaca, New York.
Along with scoring The Hungry Heart, Jeff and Judy have scored four feature films Where the Rivers Flow North, A Stranger in the Kingdom, The Year that Trembled, and Disappearances. They have also composed the scores for several other documentary films.
Jeff recently retired from Ithaca College, where he was a Associate Professor in the Department of Education. He taught courses relating to multicultural education, the education gap, issues of equity, diversity, and social justice in education, and more. His work focuses on making K-12 schools more welcoming and supportive for all young people and their families.
Jeff Claus will be at the screening of The Hungry Heart at Cinemapolis on Sunday, April 6th along with the filmmaker Bess O’Brien and his wife and co-creator, Judy Hyman. Make sure to reserve your tickets in advance to see this incredible film!
