The Art-Qaeda Project
Wei-Ming Ho (Taiwan)
With The Art-Qaeda Project, media adventurers engage in ‘guerrilla art’ action to capture discursive imagery and sounds of the city.
The project poaches statistics and symbols, such the Environmental Sustainability Index (ESI), which tracks elements of environmental sustainability, including resource endowments and pollution levels, and Morse Code, which translates the alphabet into on/off tones that can be deciphered without a decoding device.
Through the project, the media adventurers question the value of received information in an era of fears of surveillance inflected with paranoia over terrorism.
