Ezra Wube | Ethiopia/United States

Hidar (2011–2012)

An adaptation of Hadis Alemayehu’s 1968 novel FeQir Iske MeQabir (“Love to the Grave”), Hidar places art in interactions with the environment, so that a cutout drawing of a person opens an actual door.  The video reinvents the images and stories of the classic Amharic text about the journey to peace.

Born in Addis Ababa, Ezra Wube moved to the United States at the age of 18 and received his BFA in painting from the Massachusetts College of Art (Boston) and an MFA from Hunter College (New York). His work encompass video, installations, drawing, painting and performance.
