Co-Directors Of Ithaca College's Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) Invite The Community To Help Launch New Art Cinema

ITHACA, NY — Seventh Art Corporation of Ithaca — a major partner in Ithaca College’s Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) — will open a five-screen multiplex art cinema on Green Street on May 27, and the co-directors of FLEFF are asking civic-minded filmgoers to lend a hand to get the new facility ready for its opening.

“We’re looking for avid cinema fans who would like to join us in wielding a brush to help paint the walls,” said Patricia Zimmermann, professor of cinema, photography and media art and co-director of FLEFF.

“By giving FLEFF a downtown venue for its film screenings, 7th Art has made a vital contribution to the cultural life of the community,” added co-director Tom Shevory, professor of politics. “We at FLEFF want to build on that community spirit by inviting people who are interested in independent cinema help us put their personal touch on the new facility.”

Zimmermann and Shevory and other members of the FLEFF team, the 7th Art Board, and Cascadilla Boat Club’s high school crew team began the painting efforts two weekends ago. Those efforts will continue every weekend from now until the theater opens on Wednesday, May 27. Those willing to help should contact Patricia Zimmermann, at (607) 351-4334 or patty@ithaca.edu.

The new Green Street facility will consolidate the operations of Fall Creek Pictures on North Tioga Street and Cinemapolis in Center Ithaca. Offering stadium seating, more spacious seating arrangements, larger screens and better sound and sightlines, the new theater will be housed on the north side of Green Street across from the Tompkins County Public Library, just behind Center Ithaca.
