FLEFF LAB: Blood on the Flag
In the wake of the sixth anniversary of U.S. military intervention in Iraq, this lab will be dedicated to the memory of Peter DeMott, an eloquent peace and social justice activist who died this year.
Guest activists include: IC writing professor Fred Wilcox, co-author of Philip Berrigan’s autobiography; St. Patrick’s Four activists Clare Grade, Teresa Grady and Daniel Burns; and Mary Anne Grady.
This lab will be moderated by IC politics professor Beth Harris, who is teaching a seminar about “Witnessing War, Occupation and Displacement.”
FLEFF LAB Launches in 2009!
FLEFF LAB.
Where you participate rather than observe.
Where you speculate rather than pontificate.
Where everyone is an interlocutor in a festival of ideas.
Where everyone imagines prototypes and possibilities.
Where spice, syncopation, toxins and trade get unpacked, remixed, rewired, unsettled.
Our 2009 edition of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival inaugurates FLEFF LAB, a day-long interactive confab on FLEFF Friday where there is no audience--only participants!
No need to sign up--just show up. No reservations. No registrations. No regulations.
We'll unleash an unconference model of incessant interaction and user-centric idea generation to see what happens when festival filmmakers, musicians, writers, intellectuals, visiting fellows, digital artists and thinkers mix it up with festival goers and students to dig deep into our festival programming streams.
In FLEFF LAB, rank, age, experience, knowledge, expertise, fame and fortune don't matter.
FLEFF LAB is a gathering of people who thrive on heterogeneity and difference to incubate new ideas and prototype the future--or your next film, script, online art project, locative media performance, environmental intervention, installation, book idea, writing, software development or research project.
We'll have sessions using our programming streams as frames and starting points. We'll have short presentations from our festival guests to get the conversations going across disciplines, art forms, politics, and nations. And-- we'll facilitate lots of discussion and interaction so you leave invigorated.
Think unconference. Think brainjam. Think speedgeeking. Think FLEFF LAB
