Health Care Needs
Ithaca College will utilize all available resources to meet the outpatient health care needs of students and, as possible and appropriate, of the larger Ithaca College community during an influenza pandemic
- The Ithaca College Student Health Service will have as its primary responsibilities the outpatient care of ill students; on-campus infection control; distributing and administering vaccines and chemoprophylaxis to students; coordinating the medical care of students with other local, regional, and distant health care facilities; advising the President, CERT, and other College officials concerning the public health dimensions of the pandemic; and liaison with governmental health authorities. It will, as required by local or state health officials, work with other departments on campus to care for the remains of the deceased; and may also assume responsibility for certain emergency health care needs of College employees and the larger community if directed to do so by the President.
- The Health Service, under the direction of the Director of Health Services or designee, will establish effective protocols for providing medical care, within its capabilities, to students with influenza and students with non-influenza-related needs; stockpiling emergency equipment and supplies, including vaccines and antiviral medications under guidance of governmental health authorities; effective pandemic emergency staffing and scheduling; and administering other on-campus emergency-level medical care as may be deemed necessary (e.g., quarantine, isolation, and the monitoring of disease outbreak characteristics and individual cases of illness).
