Diane
Gayeski, associate dean in the Park School and professor of strategic communication (CMD program),
will be honored by the International Society for
Performance Improvement (ISPI) with the prestigious Thomas F. Gilbert Distinguished Professional
Achievement Award at the ISPI annual conference in April. The award recognizes Gayeski's
outstanding contributions to the knowledge and practice of human performance technology.
In addition to her roles at Ithaca College, Gayeski has been an active consultant since 1976, focusing
on helping organizations develop innovative and forward-looking approaches to communication,
collaboration, and learning. She has authored 14 books and written more than 100 book chapters and
articles. She pioneered interactive media, developing early pre-Internet applications of
interactive videodisc and computer-assisted instruction starting in 1979.
An active member in ISPI since 1984, Gayeski has delivered countless conference presentations and
workshops. On April 8, during the ISPI 2008 Conference, Gayeski will be giving an invited
Master’s Series Presentation, "Connecting with Tomorrow’s Workforce: Trends and
Technologies."
According to Gayeski, her presentation is about, "how leading organizations are using innovative
strategies and technologies to recruit, train, support collaboration and mentoring, and retain top
talent." She notes that globalization, outsourcing, massive retirements among baby boomers and
the entrance of "nexters" into the workforce is setting up a war for talent that will impact the
strategies and technologies used for workplace performance and learning. In order to design
effective performance management systems, Gayeski says, "we need to learn what makes nexters tick."
Gayeski also has promoted student participation in professional organizations and conferences over the
years, including advising the Ithaca College
student chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). She
currently is co-organizer of the first IABC student conference which will be held in conjunction with
the Heritage Region conference, scheduled for the fall of 2008.
