Getting Involved

A small student body and knowledgeable, interested faculty enhance the possibilities for individualizing your program, as do opportunities to take courses at nearby Cornell University or to pursue independent study. In order to enrich your classroom learning, you may also assist faculty members in teaching, coaching, and research.

Research in Exercise & Sport Sciences

Perhaps more than anything else, graduate study is about exploration and being on the cutting edge. It is about creating, developing, and applying new knowledge. And the graduate faculty at Ithaca College is well prepared to ease the transition in the world of research.

The faculty and students in the Exercise & Sport Sciences program have a dramatic level of scholarly achievement—just consider the following statistics:

In the 2005-2006 academic year, Ithaca College graduate faculty and students

  • Authored or co-authored 20 peer-reviewed and professional papers
  • Presented 23 papers at 12 different conferences or venues (Eight graduate students were lead or co-authors of these papers and presentations)
  • Collaborated with scientists from 15 different institutions, such as the Olympic Training Center

And just last year (2006-2007) the faculty and students

  • Authored or co-authored 16 peer-reviewed and professional papers
  • Presented 36 papers and workshops at 24 different conferences or venues. (Eleven graduate students were lead or co-authors of these papers and presentations.)

These figures are remarkable for such a relatively small, and master’s-only program. The degree of collaboration with scholars outside of the IC campus reveals the national level reputation of the ESS graduate program and its faculty.

The quality and quantity of this productivity speaks for itself, and as a prospective graduate student, prepare to be engaged!
