Programs At-A-Glance

The M.A.T. in Adolescence Education (grades 7-12) and the M.S. in Childhood Education (grades 1-6) are Ithaca College’s newest graduate programs. Students in both programs have a marked passion for learning and a strong commitment to making a difference in students’ lives. They are also motivated and hard working -- fully ready to undertake rigorous coursework and valuable off-campus teaching experiences.

Whether their focus is on the humanities, social sciences, mathematics/science, or elementary education, our students strive to improve the quality of education for all learners.

Program Highlights

  • The chance to earn teaching certification and a master’s degree in just 13 months. Begin the program one summer and apply for certification and a teaching position the following summer.
  • The integration of theory with practice and coursework with field experiences.
  • Opportunities to observe, tutor, team-teach, and teach in multiple and diverse settings, including Ithaca-area schools and our partnership schools in Harlem.
  • An emphasis on culturally-responsive teaching that supports the personal and academic achievement of all learners.
  • The development of future teachers as reflective practitioners and action researchers in their own classrooms.
  • The preparation of program graduates who contribute actively to school and community improvement efforts and take leadership roles in our nation’s schools.
