Part I will offer sessions for musicians and health care providers, and participants will be able to choose the mix of sessions they want to attend. Areas of instruction will include basic anatomy and physiology, postural analysis, stress and mental training, practice techniques, common injuries, Feldenkrais® exercises, introduction to Brain Gym®, learning styles (neurolinguistic programming), hand anatomy, and biofeedback. Music faculty will address the physical demands in five major instrument groups -- brass, strings, keyboards, voice, and reeds -- and the workshop faculty will give a Sunday evening recital. Attendees are welcome to perform during the demonstrations and the recital.
Part II is a continuation of Part I. Although not required, participation in the Part I workshop or a previous Healthy Musician workshop is strongly recommended. Learning styles, Brain Gym, Feldenkrais® exercises, breathing techniques, and physical therapy examination will be discussed and demonstrated in greater depth, and therapeutic massage, developmental optometry, and pharmacology and yoga will be presented.
