ANTH-27000 North American Indians
Seminar on Indian culture and background, as well as contemporary Indian problems in the continental United States. Readings on the rich and varied heritage of American Indians research and presentations on current problems facing specific Indian groups. Prerequisites: ANTH 10400. 3 credits.
CLTC-22100 Water = Life
Human life depends on water. This course will develop insight and appreciation for this essential element and its effect on sustainability from the perspectives of the arts, humanities and sciences. Online videocasts, podcasts, guest lecturers and discussions will link students and experts. (Online instructional method.) 3 credits.
MKTG-31200 Principles of Marketing
Study of concepts, activities, and decisions related to the exchange process, management of the marketing mix, and development of marketing strategy for profit and not-for-profit organizations. Addresses the sociocultural, legal and regulatory, technological, economic, ethical, political, and social responsibility dimensions to marketing in the global environment. Prerequisites: Three courses in business or social sciences; junior standing. 3 credits. (Online instructional method.)
RLS-42100 Wilderness Expedition Leadership
Capstone course of the outdoor adventure leadership major. Entails living, traveling, and developing skills outdoors in a wilderness setting. Emphasis is on the development of sound judgment, decision making, and teaching skills with groups in adventurous wilderness activities. This course is structured around personal ability and knowledge improvement to create a fair assessment of students coming into the course with varying leadership and skills ability. When taken in sequence with RLS 21600 and RLS 35400, this course may lead to National Standards Program for Outdoor Leadership (NSP) certification through the Wilderness Education Association (WEA). Attempting to receive WEA NSP certification is optional and subject to an additional fee. Prerequisites: RLS 35400; 600 hours of logged field experience; RLS major or minor. 3 credits.
WRTG-17500 Introduction to Creative Writing
Elements and techniques of writing fiction and poetry introduced through instruction, analysis of models, experimentation, and practice. Fiction-writing techniques include developing character and plot, using dialogue, creating scenes, learning narrative structure, and acquiring narrative voice. Poetry-writing techniques include traditional poetic forms, poetic imagery, and descriptive and figurative language. Not open to students who have previously received credit for WRTG 23600 or WRTG 23800. Prerequisites: Any level-1 composition course from WRTG 10600 through WRTG 16500. 3 credits.
