Three Week Session

Issues in Management

All students in the Issues in Management series will spend the first half of the three week program exploring the role management plays in providing leadership within their organizations. In this part of the management mini course a variety of topics will be covered including hiring issues, motivating employees, sustainable business practices, and understanding the feedback managers receive from financial markets and other economic indicators. 1.5 credits.

Students will then focus on one of three mini course areas: ‘Entrepreneurship’ or ‘Marketing and Social Media’ or ‘Money and Baseball’. 

 

Issues in Management: Entrepreneurship
In the Entrepreneurship course students will explore the basic legal, financial, operational, and marketing aspects of starting a business and how a business plan is developed and utilized. Entrepreneurs will stop by and talk about some of the important lessons that they've learned as well. Heather Lane, School of Business - Management. 1.5 credits.

 

Issues in Management: Marketing and Social Media
In Marketing and Social Media students will explore marketing concepts and strategies and the use of social media marketing sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube. Kurt Komaromi, Assistant Professor, Marketing and IMC. 1.5 credits.

 

Issues in Management: Money and Baseball In Money and Baseball students will explore the financial, legal, and economic policy issues in major and minor league baseball. Topics include stadium financing, taxation, player contracts, cost minimization and its effects on a team’s payroll, contract enforcement, collective bargaining, and baseball’s antitrust exemption.
