Admissions Basics

Required Speech, Language & Hearing Screening

All graduate students in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology will participate in a mandatory speech/language/hearing screening at the start of their first fall semester. The purpose of this screening is to identify, and refer for assessment and potential remediation, any communication behavior that may interfere with the student’s ability to address the communication needs of clients and their families. If deemed appropriate the student will enroll for services as long as is considered necessary by the graduate chair and clinical program director in consultation with the service provider. These services will not preclude a student from pursuing a degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Speech-Language Pathology with Teacher Certification. A student who chooses not to participate in a remediation program might be unable to fulfill ASHA’S Scope of Practice requirements.
