Speech, Language & Hearing Screening
All graduate students in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology will participate in a mandatory speech, language, and hearing screening at the start of their first fall semester. The purpose of this screening is to identify any communication behavior that may interfere with the student’s ability to address the communication needs of clients and their families. If necessary, students will be referred for further assessment and potential remediation. If deemed appropriate, the student will enroll in services for as long as is considered necessary by the Graduate Chair and Clinic Director in consultation with the service provider. These services will not preclude a student from pursuing a degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Speech-Language Pathology with Teacher Certification. A student who chooses not to participate in a remediation program might be unable to fulfill ASHA’s Scope of Practice requirements.
