Summers Only Music Education Program

Earn Your MM or MS in Music Education in Three Summers

Graduate studies in the summer focus on the MM or MS in Music Education. This degree, which is required for permanent state certification, can be completed in three summers and is designed to offer participants the same dynamic and extensive opportunities and curriculum as the residential program.

Highlights of the program include:

  • a series of core classes that focus on pedagogy, research and philosophical foundations, as well as contemporary educational issues, methodology, and resources;
  • a rich offering of music elective courses that rotate in a three-year cycle and are designed to give participants the opportunity to select from a wide range of topics, including curriculum development, music technology, special learners, multicultural music, and administration and supervision;
  • a valuable opportunity for two summers of one-on-one mentoring by one of our widely recognized faculty members.

Tuition

$603 per credit hour

Application Procedures

Students who wish to receive full consideration for admission to the summer master’s program in music education, as well as for an assistantship, must apply online through the Division of Graduate Studies by April 1. Other applications for admission only will be accepted on a space available basis until June 15. Apply online.

Summer Workshops

Up to 5 credits toward the degree may be earned in Graduate Music Workshops. These one-week workshops provide a variety of educational experiences each year and may be taken by degree students or non-degree students, for credit or not for credit. The workshops occur in the week preceding the five-week graduate music summer session, offering students in the summer music education degree program on opportunity to earn credits outside of the regular summer session.
