Graduate Student in Library

The students enrolled in this program are a picture of diversity not only in terms of ethnicity but also age and background. Students come from all parts of the world. Along with our U.S. students, we currently have people from India, China, Japan, Kazakhstan, France, Sweden, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Korea. People from all stages of life participate in the program as well.  Recent recipients of undergraduate degrees learn alongside mothers, second career builders, multiple degree holders, and people working full-time. Professional backgrounds range from teachers to lawyers, bringing a wide variety of viewpoint and context to the learning experience.

Being a small collection of people (about 35 students are enrolled in the program annually) the culture is unique. Yes, it is common to see students meeting formally in teams and study groups, but the size of our student body coupled with the mutual challenges faced academically, creates a bond of closeness that goes beyond the college walls. There is unconditional support between students in the form of encouragement, sharing of ideas, tutoring, emotional comfort, and social outings. The feeling of family is strong and graduates from the program know that this played a major role in their success.

This program is intense and challenging. Students who accept the challenge would not have it any other way. However, the uniqueness of this program comes from working with the diverse and friendly student body, professors who are top in their fields, practical experience working with local businesses and not-for-profits, and opportunities in the form of challenging internships, colloquium presentations, research collaboration, and conference participation.
